MyFitnessPal doesn't like how much I eat

Recommended Posts

They aren't going to change it for the minority of users, they don't care. Their premium prices are high enough they should care.

I use LoseIt premium to track. I never end my days, I don't see the point. I know when I'm done eating. I did end a day with less than 1200 calories to see what would happen and it just popped up a picture saying at least 1200 is best. I normally eat more than 1200 calories a day anyway, so this would not be a normal issue for me.

Honestly I think a lot of Bariatric patients need the reminder to strive to hit 1200 calories so this the reminder is a good goal.

Does MFP let you customize more with premI'm? Every time I have used it so much if the food entries are wrong, I have trashed it. The food in LoseIt even the user entries are far more accurate.

You can customize without premium...it is done in the goals section. you can set your own macros and change the dashboard as well.

I never close the day due to this. Other than that I love this app

It won't let me end my day, says I need to eat more. Is there any place in the settings that I'm not finding where I can indicate I had surgery, this isn't a mistake, etc? It wants me to have 1000-1200 calories a day at least. Well seeing as I'm not quite a month out from surgery that just isn't happening.

I've already customized my calories but even with the lower calories as my goal it still gives me the same error. Oh well, sounds like they just don't give a crap. I'm using it because a couple friends are and I want to connect with them so it's not a big deal. I also track on Spark People and that one won't even let me set my calories as lower than 1000. Irritating that they don't care about those who've had surgery. Bah! I don't really want to fool it though because I want to be able to flip back through and easily see my days accurately. Oh well... at least it's not just me. :)

I never close my days in my app and all the macros and everything are calculated properly.

I don't get what closing the day is supposed to do.

  • Just like Travelher I use the website and never had any problem with anything not be recorded. I see my reports for everything. I do get that message I didn't eat enough but it still records everything I do.

I used MFP when I lost a bunch of weight a few years ago. They have a real problem with people with eating disorders using their site. So I guess they figure they'd rather annoy WLS patients than encourage anorexics. I'm okay with that.

Not closing your day doesn't lose you anything. The only thing it does is calculate how much weight you'd lose in x number of weeks if you kept eating the way you did that day. They don't want to encourage anorexics. Once your intake is above 1,000 you will be able to start closing out your days again.

I use my net diary and don't have any problems. I have the paid version but you could check out their free one to compare it.

I've switched to baritastic-it's a tracker for wls patients. I've only used it one day, but I like it so far

I haven't read the responses to this post, so I apologize if my response is repetitive.

MyFitnessPal is not designed for Bariatric patients. It is designed for people who are wanting to diet without having the surgery. My guess is, non-WLS individuals have to eat at least 1,300 - 2,000 calories each day, in order to keep their stomachs "sane". Since our stomachs are smaller, it's easier for us to function on a low calorie and high Protein diet.

I tried MyFitnessPal years ago (before my WLS), and it worked for a while. I can only imagine how discouraged I would have felt if I could only eat 500 - 800 calories each day. I'd have felt like I was starving!

I think MFP is a great app. Just try to keep your calories at the number your doctor suggested, and monitor your protein/water intake.

I never close out my days - as long as I've logged everything, I'm good!

Closing out the day's journal is helpful for those of us who need the "reward center" of the brain to kick in to reinforce habits. I have about 40 friends on MFP and I like the social network aspect of it, so I would want my friends list to know that I am completing my diary each day.

I've been using MFP for 3 years so I'm not sure I could bear to switch apps! Hmmm. Good conversation to have, I'm glad I know this pre-op! I will probably create a fake food called "Phantom Calories" or something, maybe make it 20 calories and just change the # of servings as needed so I can get to the 1000 or 1200 it requires.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
