I don't mind the flavor of the shakes but it seemed that I was getting too full early in the day and as a result not getting in enough fluids. I did not have a shake today and at 45 ounces it will be the closest I've gotten to the minimum in my 3 weeks post-op. I have hit the minimum for Protein most days, including today.

Has anyone else given up the shakes early? Did you have success meeting your minimums?

How much are you drinking over a period of time. I found i had to cut down my shakes from 8oz to 4 for a while until i could get it all in and have room for more liquid. I wasn't meeting or close to my Protein goals until i was eating real food. It's hard. I prioritized liquid over Protein for a while until i could get close to my liquid goals because i was getting really dehydrated and sick. I realized i would have an 8 to 12 oz shake and take over 2 hours to finish it and would forget to have Water. Would be so wiped out i would sleep most of the day and forget to drink. I realized i had to do something when i had several episodes in one week of almost passing out in various places. One being on the train in the subway. That scared me enough to get my act together and make it a mission to get my Water in. It's hard but better than being on an I.V. drip.

I gave up shakes early on. Surgery was November 9th. I now get all my Protein from food.

I couldn't tolerate the shakes anymore. I keep trying but instantly they make me nauseous, I get chills like I'm going to throw up and diarrhea.

I can tolerate GENEPRO Protein if I add it to something but most days I don't need it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
