Time after referral

I think each surgeon and each patient is different. There is also what the hospital will approve and what insurance would approve. Those are not always the same. Good luck and I hope they approve you.

Are you sure they look at your highest weight and not current? Do you know how I could verify that before I go weigh in this week?

Dont be worried. With me he just looked at my health history, asked about what kind of exercising I do, why I want to have surgery and gave me the chance to ask questions.

I guess I'm just scared that because my bmi is only 40.2 she will tell me I'm "too healthy" to have the surgery....

Yeah I read the binder the bariatric center gave me yesterday and I know why I think i should have the surgery. I just get really high anxiety in cases like that and then it's hard to talk and breathe lol. Pray for me :)

@lili94 @victoriak419 @bekah7482 My suggestion to you all is to get definite answers and requirements from your insurance first. I had UHC at the time of my surgery and I was required to have a 40BMI. This was because I had no Co Morbids. I was lucky as I had my mentor Paula that I worked with to guide me. When I first started thinking about the LB Surgery my BMI was just under 40. But because I know already that I didn't have any other issues that I would not qualify. So before I even went to the seminar i put on 10lbs to make sure I was at the 40BMI. I know your thinking... Wow you gained weight to get the LB....Yes I did and I would do it again and again if i had to. I gained 10 to lose 100.

I also used my GYN visits to show a progression in weight over the years, my history from Weight watchers.

After I knew I had the weight I needed I signed up for the seminar. They gave me the packet to fill out and all the question I needed to call and ask my insurance. (which I know because Paul had told me) But I did call anyway. Made my appointment with the DR, got in, filled out all of his stuff, weighted in.... 230lbs 40bmi right on the nose. They set up all of my other appointments.... NUT, Pchy, Heart, Swallow, sleep ap...etc. After all were done, they compiled all my results and sent with a surgery date to my insurance all in one packet. They said the reason they do this is so they can't say they didn't get something... it's all together. I got a call in one week.

I Started looking into everything in Aug. First apt in Sept and was banded Nov 9, 2009.

So my suggestion to you all.... if you have not been diffidently approved by your insurance, DON'T lose a lbs especially if you are on the cusp of the 40bmi with out co morbids. As soon as you do get the approval, then you can if you need too.

My advice to you all..... Hope it helps
