Greeting, everyone!

Long story short, my first band was placed in 2008 when I was 260lbs. I lost 90lbs, was miserable physically, and had it removed because it slipped in April 2013 weighing about 180lbs. 2nd band was placed in August of 2013, and removed (again, slip) in March 2016, weighing 190lbs. After that band was removed I couldn't stop gaining weight and found out I was severely hypothyroid. Since then my TSH levels are normal (taking Synthroid) and I am 250lbs and not responding to diet/exercise. For example, on a one month strict no carb diet, I gained 10lbs.

So a year after my 2nd band removal I am traveling to Tijuana to have a revision surgery (even if there is no band/port it's still a revision) to try the sleeve! It's with ALOBariatrics, Dr. Alejandro Lopez.

What I'd like to know:

Has anyone used Dr. Lopez recently? How was your experience?

Does anyone know how being hypothyroid will hamper my weight loss chances this time around?

Has anyone gone to Mexico by themselves? Was it difficult?

Has anyone been successful in financing their flight with their medical loan?

Is there anything I might be missing/need to know?

Thanks, you guys!

Good luck! I'm a band to sleeve revision but I had mine done here in the states. I'm also hypothyroid and it was the hardest to lose weight, even with the band. The sleeve is so much different. I wish you the best in your journey

My mom used Dr Lopez for her sleeve and was very happy with him. You shouldn't have any issues being by yourself, they will take very good care of you. I'm not sure about your other questions but I can tell you I converted from band to sleeve in October and I'm so thrilled with my results.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
