hey everyone!

i just had my first appointment with the surgery and everything went really well! I just have a few things i need to get signed by my PCP then i can submit a claim to my insurance. I'm just curious to know what chewable Vitamins everyone suggests for after surgery. ive looked at some of the prices on them on the Bariatric Advantage website and the pills seem a little pricey. Does anyone have any low cost suggestions??

Prior to my surgery I was concerned about price of Vitamins as well. So I got chewables...but after surgery they are very difficult for me to eat. They taste like chalk! And they are too huge. So I prefer the chews (star burst looking). Cost little more but better for me. So think about taste & what your tolerance level might be after your surgery.

My surgeon recommends the Vitamin Patches through PatchMD. I haven't tried them yet, but they seem pretty cost effective if that was a route you wanted to try and possibly talk to your surgeon about!

I should mention that I'm not a rep for PatchMD or anything, it is just what my surgeon recommends. :)

I started the Patches soon after my surgery. I couldn't tolerate the Vitamins in pill form--true for me prior to surgery as well--so, my surgeon was fine with Patches and said I'd be his first "guinea pig" as no one else in his practice has used them. I'll have my blood work done next month and we shall see!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
