How long did it take to recover and go back to work. I'm scheduled to have the gastric sleeve on Jan 30th and been told I will be out of work for 2 to 3 weeks. Did anyone take longer or shorter amount to go back to work

I can only take a week, hopefully that will be enough time to heal...

I only took a week. But I work in an office and sit all day. I worked a couple of half-days but this was also around Christmas holiday and everyone was taking off. :)

I took two weeks then my third week I did half days to build up my endurance. My Dad had the surgery and it took him a week less than me to get back at work. My surgeon's nurse had it and was back to work in 5 days, so I think it really varies.

I had RNY on Wednesday. I worked from home Friday (just emails and housekeeping stuff), and I was back to work Monday.

However, I have a sedentary job. Also, if you do go back that early, you'll likely not be in any shape to do anything else, so make sure you've got help with cooking, laundry, and all your other chores for a couple of weeks.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm planning to take a week off. A family member had the sleeve and went back to work in a week. We both have desk jobs. Good luck with everything!

2 weeks is plenty. I was bored at home after 9 days. What shall I do when I retire later this year?

I'm only planning to take a week off. My Dad had the surgery a year ago and was back to work in a week, and my surgeon says I can go back whenever I'm ready. I work a mostly sedentary job, so it shouldn't be a huge deal.

I only took a week off. During all discussions with my surgeon, he told me I only needed a week off, and I was definitely feeling great and ready for work at the end of that week.

I was originally planning on only taking 1-2 weeks off, but I think I'm going to try to do 4-6 weeks off now. My new doctor recommends that much time. I'm just wondering if I'll qualify for disability for that time off?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
