When did your tastes change?

Recommended Posts

Last night I mixed up 3 different Protein shakes and 1 yogurt + Protein + flavor before I found something that I could handle the flavor of. I haven't had any problems previously, so last night was a bit of a surprise.

Is this a sign that my tastes are changing?

I usually like to mix chocolate, vanilla, and those types of flavors with almond milk, but those were tossed down the drain. I eventually found a fruit (mixed with water) that I could tolerate. I don't normally drink the almond milk flavors during the day (it's too much effort to take almond milk to work). So I don't think I'm just tired of those flavors, I don't drink them as often as the fruit flavors.

I found a few days after surgery I didn't really like any of the Protein powders I'd so carefully tested out and chosen pre-op. I choked them down for a couple of days and then sent hubby to Walmart for some Premier Protein. I hadn't liked it pre-op but it went down OK at the hospital (that's what they had) and post-op it's the only one I tolerated. After several days of sweet Protein shakes, I was also desperate for something NOT sweet, which is when I discovered I could put unflavored Protein powder in chicken bouillon if I dissolved it in a little lukewarm Water first.

So my tastes started changing right off the bat after surgery. I'm still finding things I used to like that I don't really care for anymore.

My tastes changed right after surgery.

Before surgery I liked Powerade Zero and afterwards, I couldn't handle it. The same with Crystal Light lemonade and the vanilla Premier Protein shakes. I still enjoy chocolate though.

As far as foods go... nothing really for me... except for Waldenfarms Caesar salad dressing. Can't handle it now.

Taste changed right after surgery. I really just didn't know what to do. Couldn't drink Premier shakes anymore. Everything with a strong taste or smell had to go. I can't stand to smell toast cooking. No "garlic" oh my... my favorite season of all times. Not anymore to strong. Will my sence of smell/taste change back?

I guess I'll be the contrarian here. My taste buds didn't change and everything is like it was.

My tastes didn't change much, but I like a lot more salt than I used to, and I like much spicier foods. I still love the sweets, though.

Huh. I wonder why I had such a hard time last night (3 weeks PO) finding something edible.

My tastes changed immediately... 2 weeks after surgery I devoured green Beans, which I previously hated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
