Hi Diana,

I missed your post. I am on the Cali side of the border, down in Eureka. I emailed a person who saw Dr. Mirande and liked him. She was trying to find someone closer to do follow-up, but said his follow-up with fills was good.

I checked Dr. Tersigni when I was looking for a surgeon. He was pretty high-priced and had some requirements I didn't want to meet -- don't remember for sure, but maybe he wants to do all the pretesting there and I did mine through my personal doc.

Have you made a choice, yet?

Hi,

Dr. Kuri Santiago, in Mexico did my lapband and he was great! I paid nine thousand to have it done, this includes lifetime fills. You fly into San Diego, and a nice new van picks you up at the airport and takes you across the border and it is easy, clean and Dr. Kuri is great. See his web site Dr_kuri@yahoogroups.com, the scroll down to doctors and click on Dr. Kuri.

Dr. Kuri has done more than 1000 lapband surgeries, far more than any US doctor, and has a very high satisfaction rating.

hope this helps,

Lynette Bailey;)

Diana, there are many, many qualified band surgeons - in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. Just thoroughly check out whomever you decide on - not just based on the "best price", but the dr.'s knowledge, patients' comments, hospital used, and as important, the aftercare. You have to have great followup (and have it lined up) for this band to work properly! Take your time and research as much as you can. It's your life and you're worth it!

Hi Vera,

I am interested in seeing how much the Doctor's in San Jose or Truckee are charging for a fill. It sure would save me time and trouble to get my fills closer to home. Any information would be appriciated.

Thanks,

Lynette Sac.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
