Dreaming of food [emoji85] (literally)

Recommended Posts

Hey all! So I'm currently 6 days post op, and feeling better today than I have yet! The only thing is, I have had dreams for FIVE nights in a row about me cheating on this absolutely brutal awful 2 week clear liquid diet that my surgeon has me on. I have been following my surgeons instructions to the letter thus far, but am starting to freak out that I may be in for more than I can handle. I'm going to be going back to college in a week and have not told anyone at school about the surgery. Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences?

I would say come up with a plan to maintain your post op eating white at school NOW...before you get there. Set yourself up for success by making sure you have everything you need. The dreams are only dreams and the tough parts will pass. Stay the course! You've come this far. You can do it!

It can be overwhelming to think about what you will do and who you will tell about the surgery. Your medical stuff is private; you don't have to tell anyone if you don't feel like it. In my experience, most people don't really get it, and I don't have the patience to explain all of it. If anyone asks (and most of the time they don't), you can just say you have a medical issue...and you'd rather not talk about it.

Best of luck to you. You got this!

You **CAN** handle it. It sucks, but it's worth it. Stop doubting yourself and just do what you need to do to be successful. The liquid diet does not last forever, it just feels like it does.

To be crude, suck it up, buttercup. You are TOTALLY worth it.

The liquid diet is the worst!! But I agree with the above replies....you can do this! I hated the liquid diet too, but now it's just a memory...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
