Armygalbonnie 643 Posted January 11, 2017 I would stay away from sf candy. Most of them have sugar alcohol and to your body, it still processes like sugar. Sugar alcohol makes me crave more sugar. Also, check the fat grams/calories. Often if sugar is removed fat is added for more flavor. It sounds like a slippery slope to me.
Fredbear 397 Posted January 11, 2017 Yeah, it's best just to stay away from candy. It's just going to reignite your cravings.
LittleBill 2,231 Posted January 11, 2017 Nooooooo!!!!!! Sugar alcohols, regardless of cravings, are going to make you squirt like George Jetson on steroids. Don't ask me how I know this.
clc9 644 Posted January 11, 2017 Funniest thing I ever read were the Amazon reviews for Haribo sugar free Gummy bears. LittleBill's description is apt! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
alb 10 Posted January 12, 2017 I always have a supply of sugar free life savers the mint ones. They have 5 calories each. I've had no problem with them making me want candy... however I've never been a candy fanatic. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
WitchySar 244 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) How your body reacts to sugar alcohols is hard to tell. It's not the same in every person. Some people find it makes them crave the real thing more, some people find it satisfies the sweet tooth and no longer want sugar. Some people experience *gastric distress*, some people don't (stick to the portion size, or a little less and you'll likely be fine). Some people claim it makes their body react as if they had regular sugar, more people however show little to no change in blood sugar after having sf candy. Really you're the only one who can answer whether or not it's a good idea for you. I don't know when your surgery was but I would personally suggest waiting at least a few months to let your stomach heal and then... it's up to you. Pazza 199 Posted January 12, 2017 Haha! This is kind of funny. I had terrible nausea for months after surgery and the mints were so helpful at calming my pouch. I tried the sugar free lifesavers but they did not help! There were fewer carbs or sugars, don't remember which in regular altoids. Tamaneek 6 Posted January 12, 2017 There is nothing wrong with sf candy. Everybody is different. You would need to try it for yourself and see how your body reacts. I eat sf jolly ranchers, life savers, and werthers. It helps crave all of my sugar cravings when I struggle Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App 1 Jessica Williams reacted to this
Vinasu 621 Posted January 12, 2017 When I'm cooking I'll suck on a SF Werthers. It prevents me from tasting while I cook. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
