Had my surgery Monday and it's Wednesday and the pain when eating.... please help!

Recommended Posts

I started back on gas x today, sent my bf to the store to get me the strips. The difference was like OMG where have you been all my life LOL I wasn't sure about anything to make you poop. I've got Miralax in bulk I think I will add back in slowly. But walking has been really hard. We have a townhouse so there is only so much back and forth you can do and since I still have my foley cath it's kind of embarrassing walking down the sidewalk with it hanging off my bathrobe LOL but I have. I'm taking the foley out tomorrow then hit up my surgeon for more pain meds to get through the weekend. Then I'm hoping the bulk of it will be over.

I have your answer. Walk, walk, walk, walk. Bring your foley and walk. That pain is caused by gas and air. I am a nurse as well and just had my surgery on January 5. I felt exactly as you did and just found out today that this is what relieved it almost entirely.

Def agree with primum. Walking helps. It hurts at first but def. helps. I have a 1 bedroom so i feel ur pain but in total its 5 rooms. Heres a trick, picture ur house shaped like a star, pick the center of ur home, start there, walk to farthest point of room 1, back to center, end of room 2, back to center, etc... u get in alot more steps that way. Do whole place. Then try doing whole place few times.

Lizzie I was on dilaudid in the hospital so the pain was no where near as bad as it is now. So it didn't really show up until after I got home. Im still making myself drink some its just a little nerve racking

Sidenote... consider going back on dilaudid since it worked in hosp but def get checked for a leak if it persists after taking the dilaudid. Good look, feel better.

I do know Jello is not on the liquid diet according to my bariatric team. It has substance. My rny was Tuesday morning. My expected release is Friday. Why rush it? We worked hard to get to this point. Agreed, you need to get to your Dr. Good luck. In fact, I just had my scan to check on leakage. I was good. Just got my catherter and drain out. Just started all liquid diet. Mine is going down fine with just sips. I hope you feel better soon. Paula

They gave me Jello the night of my surgery so I think that depends on your surgeon. I was also allowed cottage cheese on full liquids the day after my surgery. However I agree the OP should call the surgeon.

My surgery was Dec 7th I think 5 weeks post op today. I had a bad hiatal hernia that was repaired at the same time as my gastric sleeve. I still have the pain. I was on liquid pain meds for more than a week. Gas x and walking it out helps the most. Plus I take something for stomach spams. Every time I try to add items on my nutrition chart I have a flair up with the pain. I think that is more from my hernia repair and my pouch being extra tight. I am still pretty much on a liquid Protein diet but I am more comfortable that way.

I've never had anything like that. But my friend has something similar to that. She said the only thing that helped her get her fluids down was ice!! Suck on some ice and take those gas X. Those helped me so much. Hang in there it gets better!!

@@CarolinaCourtney Are you off pain meds completely? I had a morphine PCA pump while admitted then came home with liquid codeine and acetaminophen. I had some esophageal spasms but the oral meds really helped.

I had esophageal spasms a few years ago (this was way pre surgery) and I went to the ER afraid I was having a heart attack. I hope they end soon!

Are you taking an acid reducer regularly? (My Dr has me on prevacid). That's what they told me to do in the ER for the spasms. I started mine the day after surgery and haven't had any spasms yet.

Paula thanks!!! They gave me Jello at the hospital and it is normally found on a clear liquid diet so I assumed it was ok. I will say this, I'm just going to drink Water the rest of the day unless my blood sugar drops then I add a couple of grams of sugar to it to get it up. Otherwise just going to try and rest today and then back to the surgeons tomorrow.

Welcome Carolina. I am now home on Friday. I can not tolerate narcotics very well. Toradol helped. My biggest issue since yesterday afternoon has been non-ending nausea. Zofran no help, reglan no help. I went home with the scapolamine patch with really no relief. Every day and every person's experience is unique. But if anyone else has this issue, please share. Thanks. Paula

Preach!!!!!! I took the foley out yesterday and was able to get around more but still used ALL my pain med for d/c in 2 days. But when I got up this morning to go get my new script filled I had already started feeling better and late morning I was up running, should be back to normal in another day or two. It's crazy how that gas guilts so built up. But just soooo glad it's over!!!!

Sent from my EVO using the BariatricPal App Paula that's awful thankfully I haven't rad any n/v but I do get really bad vertigo so I take Compazine with the nausea gets too bad. You should try it. Zofran doesn't work for me phenergan puts me to sleep. Compazine seems pretty for me. See if you can get some. Good Luck!!!!!!

You poor thing... hope you're feeling better now. I experienced the same feeling when sipping Water. Strangely any other Fluid didn't cause the same discomfort. My surgeon recommended having a little cordial in my water as it softens it. Go figure!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
