Lost my insurance POST OP

Recommended Posts

I recently lost my insurance and have not been able to return for my two month visit or any one since. I am currently 4 months post op. My new insurance kicks in next week. but my surgeon doesn't take my new insurance. Should I just call my surgeon's office and see what they say I should do? I know worse case, I can have any tests needed done with my Primary care doctor and have them sent to my surgeon.

thanks!!

If the surgeon doesn't take your new insurance, maybe they will work with you to let you pay them after you have submitted the bill to the insurance company and received reimbursement. Your insurance should still pay something once you've met their deductible.

I don't know, I just really don't have the money to pay for the appt out of pocket. I was screwed out of my disability payments from surgery because of an error on the paper work and have been behind on bills since.

With my surgery, the first 3 months of follow-up appointments were covered with the surgery charge. I would definitely ask your surgeon's billing office if this in your case too. I've read on here where several people had f/u visits included in their surgery price.

My first year of after surgery visits are included in surgery costs. Check with your surgeons office. I have my bloodwork done with my PCP but I very much think there is value to meeting with surgeon to discuss progress and any questions during this early transition time.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to call Monday to see if they will still see me.

Do you have to get follow up with a gastric bypass surgeon. You have to established yourself with another sergeant that takes your insurance. You will have to see your gastric surgeon for the rest of your life. Your visits will become less frequent but you need to establish yourself with someone. Call your insurance and find out surgeons in your area. Your current surgeons office should work cooperatively with your new surgeons office considering the insurance situation. Get into see them and get into see them quick. Your primary care physician should not do the follow up care for this type of procedure.

If needed, your PCP should be able to work with you. What do the people who had surgery in Mexico do? I am sure they do not have visits with their surgeon.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
