When can i pick up my kids again?

Recommended Posts

I've been picking up my 27 pound daughter since three days post op. The first day I didn't bend to pick her up though, but the next day I did. My doctor said there are no lifting restrictions with laparoscopic surgery, just nothing extreme like jet skis or atvs for a few weeks. He said I really can't injure anything unless I eat off the plan. I've not had any pain or issues from carrying her, which is quite a bit. In fact, she slept on me the first night I was home from the hospital.

Your surgeon should have told you what your lifting restrictions are. If not, give him or her a call. Please follow your surgeon's direction on this and don't just take anecdotal evidence as proof that it's safe for YOU to be doing.

The danger of lifting after surgery is that there are holes in your abdomen from the surgery and if you strain too much you can give yourself a hernia which will require another operation to fix. I had an appendectomy last year and they found an umbilical hernia also which they repaired and it SUCKED, much worse recovery than after my sleeve.

My program says no lifting more than 15 lbs for four was. And nothing that engages your core muscles. You may have small incisions but you have a big wound inside.
