krystalrose219 12 Posted January 11, 2017 I'm one week post up and I'm just curious about what point of the journey people find to be the hardest (i.e. pre op, first month, maintenance etc) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
erica_ozzy73 241 Posted January 11, 2017 The 2 week pre op!!... I hated it and was hungry all the time. At this stage of 5 weeks pre op I'm finding I want to eat for the sake of eating... they remove the stomach part NOT the brain bit lol Whether it's ice cream or general crap. Oh and the toilet thing .. I rarely go for number twos and have to take laxatives.< /p> Other then that it all going great guns Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Healthy_life2 8,327 Posted January 11, 2017 Changing behaviors the mental side of weight loss. That was the rough part for me. But the best thing out of my surgery Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App
Harsha 168 Posted January 11, 2017 Hardest part for me was deciding to have the surgery and which one to get! After that, it was easy! Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
ddkVSG 32 Posted January 11, 2017 Patience. Once I decided I wanted this surgery I was ready. Turns out, it's a process. Lots of tests and appointments. Took three months to finally get surgery. In retrospect, the time flew. I used every minute of that pre op time to prepare tho. Studied everything I could for success and followed the low carb 2 week pre op diet for 3 whole months. Dr said my liver was perfect! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dairymary 533 Posted January 12, 2017 Maintenance. Definitely. The thrill of losing weight and NSVs are gone and everything gets tedious and boring and old bad habits start knocking on the door. Life still happens and now you have to deal with it without your old pal, food. All that other stuff is temporary.....Maintenance is forever.
Selvia 10 Posted January 12, 2017 The first 6 weeks then things get better every day so be optimistic Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Dairymary 533 Posted January 13, 2017 P.S. I just reread my post and it makes it sound like losing all your weight and spending eternity in maintenance is a horrible thing. I'd like to clarify that although you must remain diligent and there are sometimes very hard struggles, it is totally worth it. What I meant to stress was that although the problems and struggles you encounter preop, 1 week postop, 1 month post, 6 months post, etc are real and seem unbearable at times, they are just temporary. The mental struggles of maintenance that really never go away are why I chose maintenance as the hardest part of WLS (for me). Yes, you must work hard every day....forever....if you want to be successful, but living life as a thin person lasts forever, too. And it's great!
