Weight loss frustrations

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved on October 21st. I went into the hospital at 316, left the hospital at 327 and today I'm 279. This week I only lost about a half pound. I'm beyond frustrated and feel like I'm failing this whole thing. I feel like I should be losing A LOT more than I am. So frustrated. Anyone else have slow losses or is this normal? I'm so discouraged.

You've lost 37 pounds-that's amazing!! You had your surgery 2.5 weeks before me and since my surgery I've lost 30. Ive been told that average loss is around 10 pounds / month. That means some months may be more, but some will def be less. Follow your plan and be kind to yourself-you've done great so far!

Everyone is different, so we all lose at different rates, and there is nothing linear about it. It goes in spurts. Do you have a nutritionist with whom you can speak? It isn't just about what you eat, but how much. You might actually not be eating enough, but that sort of depends on you and the plan you have from your program. Are you tracking calories at all?

I got my sleeve just 10 days before you. I've already been through one stall, and started losing again. I boosted my calories to around 1200-1400 per day, and that seems to be helping.

I ran back about two weeks on my calorie tracker, and I'm running between 20-35, with gusts up to 40 a couple of times. I don't put every single thing in, so it is probably just a bit higher, but not a lot.

A few things:

A) Holy crap! You've lost a lot!!!!!!!!! That's fantastic!

B) We don't know your starting weight, the less you start at the less you loose each week. Kind of has to do with how many calories it takes to keep a larger body alive verse a smaller body.

C) are you measuring yourself? Do you know how many inches you've lost? I didn't lose a single pound for a month but I lost so many inches! You may not really be aware of how your body continues to change as this goes on.

D) I aim for no more than 15 carbs per small meal. We are eating hardly anything, focusing on Protein. Don't really need that many carbs. I exceed that each AM with my Breakfast but then the rest of the day is that or under. My Surgeon called out to me as I was leaving my follow up: "Stay away from sugar and carbs, it will set you right back to where you started!" So I thought he meant no carbs at all. lol! Talked to my nutritionist and I got it figured out now. But keep away from sugar

I am keeping the sugar very low and also trying to keep the carbs very low also. When I first saw my surgeon, I was 340. Which was February, then in October when I went into the hospital for surgery I was 316. I gained 11 pounds while I was in the hospital.

If you look at the label just focus on the total carbs, that combines the both. Keep those to 15 or under per the amount you eat. (I didn't say "servings" because their serving size is probably much larger than what you are able to eat.)

Try not to get too upset or demoralized over this, it's really not that uncommon. Many people have starts and stops throughout the whole process. It's important you just focus on the few real goals we have each day: 80+ grams Protein, 64+ oz Water, walk at least 30 minutes a day. If you stay within those guidelines this will work.

I see a lot of people talk about the 80+ Protein, but my surgeon said around 60 is sufficient and that I don't really need to go over that. I also do have kidney disease, so I'm wondering if that's why it's a little lower than everyone else is saying?

Keep your expectations realistic. You're doing great.

At almost 3 months, you should be at around 700-800 calories. Are you tracking calories, carbs and Protein? I think because of your kidneys, keep your protien at 60 like your doctor wants, and keep total carbs under 50.

Also, don't be afraid of fat. I have never tracked fat content. I eat full fat cheese, butter, dressings, oils etc. A little fat is good for us and helps keep us satisfied.

Are you trying to move more than before? You don't have to be a gym rat, but make sure you're trying to get some walking in or something that gets your heart pumping for a few minutes.

Try that to see if you can speed things up a little and good luck! You're still doing fine weight wise. I have a chart I post. I'll see if I can find it so you can see how well you're doing.

It is so interesting to hear everyone's journey. I was sleeved on October 25th and have been feeling the same way. I have lost 32 pounds since surgery but also feel like I am starting my second stall and it has upset me. I work out a lot and feel for all the work I am putting in, I should be doing so much better. We will get through this! My husband keeps reminding me that this is a journey and not a race. And we certainly didn't gain our weight overnight so we won't lose that quickly either.

I am hoping I can practice what I am preaching right now because it is hard!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
