I Think I'm Having a Cracker Problem

Recommended Posts

@@kharenzhee Do you open the bag and eat directly from it? Reason im asking..... I found that if i open bag and only take out one portion... close it up and put it away i avoid over eating. I do that with a lot of stuff.... I sometimes go as far as eat one bite.... and throw the rest in the trash...

Or buy the 100 cal bags. that helped me

I also have to keep crackers out of my house. Nuts are a problem for me. The calories add up quickly.

Not everyone's taste. I love Quest bbq Protein chips. I melt a bit of mozzerella cheese on them in the microwave. Dip them in salsa. 22g Protein 4g carbohydrates . 130 calories.

Hi, all!

I am almost 5 months out from gastric sleeve, and I'm experiencing my first stall. I am trying not to get too concerned about it, as I knew it would happen at some point. However, I think part of the problem might be that I am eating too many carbs in the way of crackers. They seem innocuous enough: Mini Thin Edamame Rice Crackers (38 crackers = 120 calories, 3g Protein, 0 sugar) and Pistachio-Pomegranate Crisps (11 crisps for 90 calories, 2 g. Protein, 8 g. sugar), both from Trader Joes. When I start eating them, I feel like I can't stop. And then I keep thinking about them. I usually eat them with some protein, but then I go back for more.

Are crackers or similar crunchy little things triggers or gateways for you? Would these be considered slider foods?

This seems ridiculous to be overthinking this so much, but I really feel like these little crackers are a challenge for me! :)

Thanks for any thoughts!

K

I can't do crackers...slider foods...yep, gateway food for me..yep. I could live on cheese and crackers. I don't keep them in the house.

I also do nuts for crunch..also, Water chestnuts...awesome in anything you want to add crunch to like chicken salad, but not high in fat like nuts.

I use cucumbers to eat with dips like hummus.

I tend to steer clear of crackers in general because like you, they really do cause me to crave more. In the beginning I had no problem sticking to the small number of crackers but down the road, i could eat my way through 1/2 a box.

Then the cravings would start and I would think about the crunch of crackers. I have them now very very rarely and now I could care less.

I stick to nuts. I love marcona almonds from Trader Joe's. Expeciallty the olive oil and rosemary ones. It is easier for me to limit them for some reason and they fill me up and keep me full. And my goodness they taste awesome.

I also like wonderful sweet chili pistachios.

I get my crunch and don't seem to crave these as much.

Crackers stalled me a lot and even caused me to gain in maintenance. They seem innocent but they are a slider food for me.

Thank you all SO much! These are all excellent suggestions! And I really appreciate everyone's honest assessment of what are clearly trigger foods for me. I would like to respond individually to everyone's suggestions, but I'm on the mobile version right now, and it's not easy to quote responses. But please know that I've read and really appreciated all your suggestions!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
