Big decision about slipped band

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded on Sept 06 and lost 75 pounds. Except for some pb-ing I've never really had any problems so was shocked to discover this week that my band has slipped.

I have an appointment with my surgeon next week to discuss options. Does anybody have any feedback they can give me? Is it possible to repair a slip surgically or does a new band usually have to be put in?

This is a big disappointment. I don;t want to lose my band, I don;t want to have more surgery, I don;t want to gain weight again!!! What torture!!:help:

Depending on how bad it is, they may remove it. Then, they allow you to heal and possibly put a new band in. Luckily, for me, they were able to reposition mine and it wasn't removed. Did they remove your fill? Sometimes the band goes back into place by itself without the need for surgery. Best of health to you!

Congrats on the successful weight loss thus far. Usually the slip will fix itself with a complete unfill for as long as the doctor thinks is necessary. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

I met a lady at my doctors office that had a slipped band, and the doctor stitched the band back in place. I guess it depends how band it has slipped.

Usually the first line of action is to remove all of your fill for about a month and see if it slips back into place. This does happen... it's not just a pipe-dream. :)

Second option would be that the doctor could reposition your Band. If you had an older edition Band, he or she could also offer you the option of replacing your Band with one of the newer models.

Third option would be to remove your Band and do no revision surgery (other WLS).

Fourth option would be to remove your Band and revise to a different surgery. A lot of people who were successful with the Band but have erosion or slippage issues like the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy as it's a restriction only operation. Others decide to go with the more traditional RNY or DS. The choice would be yours, though. You and your doctor could discuss the options.

Mags...

Any updates?

Usually an unfill cures a slip (80+% of the time). The stomach will typically fall back into place and you are on liquids while you form new scar tissue to hold the band in place. Sometimes it needs to be surgically repositioned and once every now and again the entire band needs to be removed.

So what did your doc say?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
