How much time have you taken off work?

Recommended Posts

I was approved for three weeks and took it - but I probably could have gone back in 10 days to two weeks. Two weeks is a good amount.

Two weeks for me! I had my lapband removed and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. I have more of a desk job so it isn't too bad!

I took 1 week off but I work from home and close my own hours so I took it easy the week I started working. It wasn't easy though, I should have taken 2 full weeks off since I was pretty tired.

I was off of work for 3 weeks. I needed every minute of it. I had RNY on 12/21. I go back on 1/11. My "big" incision is still uncomfortable at times. But I am ready.

My surgeons office highly recommends 2 weeks off, but if you need more time off they will update your leave paperwork. I have surgery 1/18 and will attempt to return to work 2/1. My surgeon says it's best to get back to your regular routine asap, especially if you work a desk job. Helps you heal faster.

I went back after only 1 week (no PTO and the work was just piling up everyday I was out). It was doable but not ideal. I had no pain from surgery but I was so tired. You really can't eat anything for a while so you will have no energy. I was also "hangry". It would have been nice to take time off until I was able to eat something again (4 weeks for my program) but it just wasn't an option for me.

My doctor also approves us for 4 weeks. I plan on taking it all just so I have time to get into my new routines without the stress of work.

My surgeon told me that it is a 6 week recovery time. I am actually going to try, between my surgeon and my PCP, to get some extra time so that I can get better and get healthy. I have short term disability so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
