How long did it take you to get a surgery date

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am in the pre op stages and have my nutrition visit and my metabolic test left to do ( they will both be completed by 01/18/2017). How long after I get my last clearance can I expect to have a surgery date? Im ready to get on with this already :-)

I have the same question tomorrow is my last appointment so they will submit everything to my insurance I heard a week later I would get a surgery date because my insurance works fast. Then I was told my surgeon performs surgeries on Wednesdays that's all I know. I'll post a timeline once I get my date but so far my first appt. was 11/17/2016 and my last appt. is 1/11/2017.

My first consultation visit was September 4th.

Started the 90 Nutrition Class on September 14th.

Finished Class on December 14th.

Did my Psych eval on December 27th.

They submitted to my insurance on December 27th (Aetna Innovation Health)

Got an approval on January 5th and scheduled for February 6th.

I didn't realize all the things I would have to do leading up to surgery.

I have to get an EKG and Blood Work, an upper G.I., surgery clearance from my PCP, a phone interview, an online course, another nutrition class, another dietician appointment, and I have to have all of this done before my final physician appt that is scheduled for the 26th. I also have to start the liquid diet 14 days prior to surgery as well. I am also pretty sure my PCP is going to require cardiology clearance for my blood pressure/cardiomegaly.

I like the fact that I will be busy getting things done up until my surgery date, hopefully there won't be too much time to get anxious. I am still in shock that this is moving forward and it feels like it happened so fast! Good Luck!

I have a question regarding the appointment after the 6 month controlled weight loss visits with my PCP every month .Jan 25th is my last visit with him .Do I wait for the surgeons office to contact me or do I make the appt myself for the next step .I have BCBS and have three years of weight submitted to my surgeon and have followed a 1200 calorie a day diet for which I don't reach as I really don't eat much anyways but haven't lost any nor gained any .So how much longer should it be after jan 25th ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
