Beginning to get nervous

Recommended Posts

I am right there with you. I go in the 25th. I have been keeping myself very busy to not think about it too much. I spent the day getting the house organized and errands to prepare for a 2 week down time. Feels like the "nesting" instinct that expecting moms go through.

Staying busy will pass the time. I am not required a pre-op diet but figure what the hell. It will give me a chance to try different Protein shakes and clear the carb and caffeine headaches ahead of time. Any loss before surgery is a bonus.

Time will fly, I'm just staying busy!

Good luck, keep us posted!!

I thought I was going to die. But I didn't. How's that for positive? It was the best possible outcome. Seriously. I am very happy I did it, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had the sleeve done Dec 12th and I have no regrets. So happy I did this. Feel like I've taken my life back and feel more in control than I ever have. Good luck!

I wasn't nervous until I woke up on my surgery day. I cried. I was scared! But I got dressed and went to the hospital. I had RNY on 12/21. My surgery went very well. No complications. I stayed overnight and was discharged the next day.

Keep walking, take your meds, and sip your Water....its your way to recovery!

I said the same thing, @lacylou. It feels just like nesting. I am scheduled for the 24th. I have been preparing freezer meals for my family, cleaning, organizing, making lists, scheduling people to get my kids to and fro, and working on changing my eating habits a little at the time. I don't have a diet to do either except Clear Liquids the day before, but I've been cutting back, cutting down on carbs and caffeine (yikes), and have been completely free of sodas and sweet tea for several weeks now. It's getting real! Good luck and prayers to everyone with upcoming surgery dates.

I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I started my 2 day liquid diet today. Surgery is Jan 11. Thank god for this blog. It really helped me. Overall I only read positive quotes. I'll post after Wednesday.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
