Frustrated and having second thoughts

Recommended Posts

I am on a wait list for LBS and am expecting the surgery date to be sometime next spring. In the meantime, I have gone back to WW in hopes of losing at least 40 lbs before the surgery. I have told myself that if I can lose 50 lbs I will cancel the surgery and continue the weight loss on my own. So far I have lost 5 lbs, but I am having a difficult time staying focused with it and changing my eating habits.

I know I need to lose this weight. Ultimately, I would like to lose about 150 pounds. I guess part of me is scared of the complications that can come along with LBS and giving up certain foods permanently, where as if I can lose the weight on my own I wouldn't have the complications and can still occasionally have these foods.

So, my questions to all of you are:

1. Do you regret having the surgery?

2. Have you had any complications because of the LB?

3. Is there anything physically you can't do anymore because of the LB?

4. What foods and drinks are off limits now or can you not handle because of the LB?

5. Have you had any negative side effects?

Thanks for listening. I'm just trying to sort things out right now and your responses are much appreciated!

The one major reason I had lapband surgery over gastric bypass is mainly because with the band you can still eat almost all foods. What I mean is, you shouldn't eat them in order to lose weight but.....if you've got a craving for something, go ahead......have it and then get bqck with the program. With the bypass surgery, certain things will make you very sick. Example is ANYTHING with sugar. When I looked at the big picture, I knew I needed help. That I couldn't do it alone. It was too overwhelming. Hence, the lapband for me. I had the surgery 7-16 and have already lost 39 pounds and I go in tomorrow for my first fill.

So, my questions to all of you are:

1. Do you regret having the surgery? Not in the slightest!

2. Have you had any complications because of the LB? Nope. None.

3. Is there anything physically you can't do anymore because of the LB? Stuff my face with a cheeseburger and french fries in 3 minutes flat....

4. What foods and drinks are off limits now or can you not handle because of the LB? No drinks. Have even had carbonated drinks without any problem. As far as foods...I steer clear from breads right now because I have a GREAT restriction, but before this I COULD eat bread. Nothing is off limits if you can successfully get it down.

5. Have you had any negative side effects? Yes. Horrible side effects....my checkbook is smoking and my bank account is depleted from all the new clothes I have purchase in the last three weeks after dropping 40+ pounds! :biggrin1:

1. Do you regret having the surgery?

Nope!

2. Have you had any complications because of the LB?

None.

3. Is there anything physically you can't do anymore because of the LB?

I can't stuff myself silly any more. But that's a damm good thing!

4. What foods and drinks are off limits now or can you not handle because of the LB?

I don't drink anything carbonated. But that is by choice. I understand that some people can drink soda's.

5. Have you had any negative side effects?

Aside from losing 190lbs? None.

As someone who lost quite a bit before surgery (130 lbs) - I was on the fence when I did get my approval letter. Having said that - I still went through with the surgery and do not regret it one bit. It gives me the control that I need. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
