What was your first appointment like with your surgeon?

Recommended Posts

I've got my first appointment today with the surgeon so I was curious what everyone's first appointments were like?

What should I expect?

He spent over an hour with me asking about my weight history and diet experiences, explaining the various surgeries, and answering my long list of questions. Then I met briefly with the insurance person who told me how much it would cost if I was self-pay, took my insurance info to check on whether they would cover it, and scheduled my next appointment. I scheduled that out about a month even though they could do a lot sooner as I felt like I had a lot to think about and wanted to discuss with my family and research other surgeons.

About the same as clc9. My surgeon ask which procedure I wanted. He looked at my weight history and body frame and felt strongly about the weight I should reach. I didnt have alot of questions at first because I read so much online, but at each appointment I have at least several questions to ask. I would suggest scheduling your future appointments if you have to do the 6mos diet for insurance approval.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
