What to do about complications?

Recommended Posts

My husband isn't convinced that Mexico is the right place for surgery. I have been accepted by Dr. Illan and I'm ready...

Has anyone had any complications that needed Dr's care POST surgery?

If you had to see a Dr. did they even want to treat you?

Did you have a hard time getting treatment?

Did you go to an emergency room?

What were your complications.

Would you do it again?

My husband works in the legal field, he sees the worst of everything you could possibly imagine. I understand his fear. But I'm ready...

@@50yearoldme Make sure you talk to your PCP about follow-up blood work and call your insurance company to make sure treatment for any complications would be covered.

My PCP was great about the whole thing and scheduled me for visits and blood work at regular intervals post-op. My insurance told me that any visits to the ER, infections, or whatever else WOULD be covered. Fortunately, I had no issues whatsoever and everything went super smoothly for me.

I had a stricture fixed and that cost me a total of 8 days in hospital. First two days when they found panniculitis in my belly and thought that was my problem. A week later I couldn't keep even a teaspoon of Water down, but I felt fine when I wasn't puking.

My hospital has an er that you go to first for evaluation and then they send you to the correct ward for care. My surgeon is the boss of the wls department and she has set up very strict guidelines when it comes to the care of her patients.

I was in the hospital for so long due to dehydration, otherwise I felt quite ok. But they wanted me in good condition so I didn't have to come back for some more iv fluids anytime soon.

Just make sure you know where to turn to in case something goes sideways. I feel great after the stricture repair.

I have a marginal ulcer. There is really no reason for it. My GI doctor had no problem treating me. My PCP has been with me all the way. Dr. Illan has replied to any questions I have asked. My surgery was 7/28/16.

I had my RNY out of town. It was 2 1/2 hours from where I live. I fired my surgeon and started going to another Dr. But my PCP always adds what needs to be done on my regular bloodwork order and then faxed to my Bariatric Dr. Now my hubby did go to Mexico for his Sleeve, unfortunately, he didn't use Bariatricpal. We used another service and am not happy with the service at all. But now the same Dr that I use is taking care of him. I also forgot I had Strictures and needed 5 EEndoscopes with 4 Dilation. My Surgeon that did my RNY did 4 of them. But the Bariatric Dr in Portland did my last one in 2015. We both have not had any problems with getting care that we need. Now hubby did go to the ER when he thought his Sleeve opening was infected but if there was any real problem we would take the trip to our Bariatric Dr.

We have Medishare. It's a Christian health care option, we basically pay cash at a reduced rate, if there is anything major, a claim is filed and the other members join together to pay. It's based on the book of Acts. They encourage healthy, biblical lifestyle choices

I have Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield in Western NY. Every plan is completely different, so you definitely need to check with your provider. My insurance won't cover WLS in my case and they won't cover skin removal surgery, but they will cover complications from either.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
