Hello everyone, I am just doing research

Recommended Posts

So I am waiting for my very first appointment. So I am just praying I could get the surgery. So I figured I would come on here and see how other people are after and pre date. I also wanted to see if anyone will let me know how it is from the point you decide you want this to the point it is done. How hard is it to get approved.

Any comments will help ????

I decided in April 2016, went to a seminar, then had to complete at 6 month physician supervised weight loss program. I was approved within a week of completing it and had the procedure on 10/26/2016. No problems with approval as it is covered under my insurance, I completed the 6 months. Started with a BMI of 53 and had co-morbidities (diabetes and sleep apnea).

Good Luck!

I am 42. Best decision I have ever made in my life regarding my health. In less than three months it has changed my life in more ways than I can effectively communicate. Whether or not to have the surgery is a completely personal decision, I spent years denigrating the potential benefits by saying things like "I would never feel normal" after the procedure. I was right. I do not feel normal. I feel above average. Good luck in your research.

I haven't had my surgery yet, we are self pay. But this is a great place to ask questions and get support. LIke you I am a bit older, and I know I should have made this decision a long time ago ;-)

Hi there! Congrats on taking your first step to becoming a healthier you!

My surgery is scheduled for 1/25/17. I would first suggest finding out if your insurance company covers bariatric surgery at all, as some do not. Most insurance companies require 3-12 months of medically supervised diet/nutritional counseling, as well as a BMI of 40+ or 35 and at least 2 co-morbidities. I switched insurance mid-process, but both BC/BS and United Healthcare required 6 months. I attended an introductory seminar, 6 month nutritional counseling, and 2 support groups. Your insurance/physician may require additional testing like a sleep study, EKG, etc, as well as psychological clearance. It seems like a lot but I completed it quickly.

Best of luck to you!

Hi all, I wanted to start a new thread, but couldn't find how. I have been following the reads on here and it has been very helpful. My question is, are there any older types that have gone through this? Weighing all the pros and cons, I guess my biggest concern is my age. I am 65, but still a lot of life to enjoy. I am not enjoying much in my condition. My bmi is 41.3. There are still so many things I like to do, but can't at my size. Almost all of my chronic health problems are brought on by my weight and smoking. I have quit smoking before the seminar, so feel I'm off to a good start and motivated. I just want to feel better with energy, etc. my question I guess is how does age work in this? I look forward to your input.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
