Alexis99 67 Posted January 8, 2017 I'm still in pureed stage but adding genpro to most things to meet my needs. From what I've read, it seems most people add Protein when they are years out. Is it safe to supplement your diet with Protein long term, even for life? I guess body builders do...So might not be that bad? catwoman7 11,220 Posted January 8, 2017 most people don't need to, but some do. I malabsorb Protein. My prealbumin level tanks if I don't average around 100 grams a day, so I will probably need to supplement with a Protein Shake every day because it's hard for me to consistently get that much through food alone. Too much protein is hard on your kidneys, though, so you don't want to go crazy with it. Most of us need to get 60-80 grams a day, so if you're getting more than that (unless you're like me and malabsorb it), then it's probably overkill.

Bear in mind that the human gut has a limited ability to absorb protein though.. about 30-40g at one sitting.. Marissa.Ann.C 21 Posted January 9, 2017 I don't see why it would be a problem. Ask your surgeon or nutritionist and see what they say Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
