Lost too much too fast?

Recommended Posts

I went to the Dr yesterday for a slight unfill for being too tight. I am very good about knowing when I need some out or some in...anyways...I have NOT seen my surgeon since my first fill, last year right after surgery. Since then I always see the PA there because I love her.

Well anyways, he was amazed at what I had lost and then spent a few minutes pouring through my file, checking labs, bloodwork, ect. He told me that I had lost too much. I am at 85% of body weight in 14 months. (not including pre op which I think they should add). He then commenced to GRILL me about what I eat dialy, how many calories, how much protien, ect. I am sitting there completely cluess. He almost got hostile to me, telling me that it just shouldn't be. I got defensive and told him the truth, I do everything I am told to do, everything. I eat only until full, work out daily at 4 am, get all my protien, Water ect. He then looked at me and said "Oh there it is" I asked there is what? He said the reason you lost so much, the exercising. I was very confused and told him that is what we are told to do. He told me that no one does it. WTF???

I am pissed off, and at the same time proud. He told me that I am loosing too much too fast, and now I have to go for a bunch of test, like a swallow test. He is now convienced I am too tight....UGH....

Why can't it be that I actually am working the system, working the band? I am healthy. All tests show I am great, I can even run now...why is he trying to destroy it???

I went through something similar during my first year. My surgeon wouldn't want to fill me b/c he was afraid I would be too tight, even though I knew I wasn't. Then he thought maybe my starting weight had been written down wrong, but I had my med records to back it up. However, I never got a cross word from him, just lots of congratulations (after all, it makes him look that much more successful, no?). He also does RnY so maybe the drastic losses don't shock him as much? I don't know.

The "worst" I've had was having to compromise on 1/4cc fills when I wanted 1cc, because he was convinced that to lose like I had, I must be tighter than I was indicating.

Man, I miss those days!!

That is awesome! Results like yours are going to change the way the band is seen. We have all heard the "oh but youre not going to lose as much as the bypass" statement. Youve proved them all wrong!

Dr's are data/science people so dont be too angry with your surgeon he's trained to trust data more than his own eyes.

Marvelous!

I am glad I am not the only one! :) So does it get better? I am almost done anyways, so he won't have time to see me again! lol...ugh...

Thanks!

I never actually thought of that, I don't know how long they have been doing the band, maybe he is thinking by the book only. I told him when I had surgery, he does his part and I will do mine! :)

Woot...that's awesome girl! :)

I hope to lose fast like that....or even slow, just as long as it comes off some how! :D

As soon as I get the paper that states I can exercise again...I'll be at the gym the next day! I'm ready. I know I'm not ready for extremely strenuous exercises...but something other than walking sounds fun!

Keep up the good work...you're almost there!! Woot woot!

My PCP is the same way. He didn't know a thing about wls and was not supportive at all. I go to him every 3 mo for blood work up because of past serious health issues.....every time it seems he's almost disappointed because I'm still losing and because my blood work is perfect and I've quit taking all my diabetes/b.p./heart etc. meds!! He just shakes his head and mutters something about "I read that one man out of 5 dies after gastric bypass" (says that every time!!). I feel like I should apologize for being successful!!

Well, if my calculations are correct, you have lost an average of 2.44 pounds per week. Seems healthy to me, especially since you were exercising your butt off. Your test results prove it.

I guess every doctor/surgeon is different. My surgeon would applause such results.

Cheers Booboo! 18 more to go.....................WHO HOO!

See that is what I thought when I figured it out. It doesn't sound so bad that way! I am glad I am almost done with him!

I slowed way down, almost overnight. Now I'm a very bursty (not busty!) loser. I might lose nothing for months, then lose 10 lbs. In fact, between March and August of this year, I lost 2 lbs. But since mid August, I've lost 23 (a good part due to an illness so I'd expect it to come back).

Even with that half year stall, and all the months where I lost little to nothing, or just fluctuated the same 5# over & over, my overall loss still averaging out to about 8.5# per month, over the last 18 months. Sometimes I have to step back and ponder than number to keep from feeling like it's a lost cause.

I went through the same thing about the fill two weeks ago with my surgeon. He walked in, saw how much I lad lost since the previous fill and said he wanted me x-rayed (flouro) because he didn't think I needed a fill, I had lost so much. I told him I DID need a fill and he said "You either do not need a fill, or you are very very good!" and I said "I am very very good!" and he said "We'll see..." Well, the barium went right through me and the nurse said, "Oh yes, she definitely needs a fill!" and I looked at him and said "I told you so!"

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
