Merm12210 8 Posted January 8, 2017 So, I shoveled. I couldn't help it. We have a foot of freaking snow. I only did the walkway, and I was totally fine doing it. I had no pain, no problems... but now my stomach is killing me. My abs feel very crampy and I'm bit nauseous. I was sleeved 12/21, and I know we are supposed to not do anything ab involved for 6 weeks... but I really didn't think I was straining myself. Not sure what to do now or what to look for. How will I know if I actually hurt myself? I won't be doing that again for a while. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
suzzzzz 1,005 Posted January 8, 2017 Call your surgeon to let them know. Hopefully you didn't do any internal damage, but they can best guide you.
#BirdDog 604 Posted January 8, 2017 Definite call to surgeon. At this point you're not completely healed and the nerves have not come to. Serious damage can be done this early out.

Shoveling snow is deceptively tasking.
clc9 644 Posted January 8, 2017 As I understand it, the lifting restrictions are primarily because your abdominal muscles have been cut and are healing. Strain before that muscle wall has healed can cause a hernia - which is your intestines poking out through the unhealed incisions. Plus it's putting strain on tissue that is in the process of healing, which makes your healing take longer. A hernia will feel/look like a bulge around your incisions.
