Airport Security Curiosity

Recommended Posts

Do any of you have issues with airport security screening since surgery?

I light up the body scan device like a Christmas tree, resulting in an extremely intimate physical screening. And it happens every single time!

My abdomen is always lit up. Could be staples? Could be excess skin!

But what's even weirder is I also get random other areas. Today it was my shoulder. I've even had it light up on my freakin' forehead!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as I don't recall seeing any topics on it as I've been reading the for m posts over the last year.

And I don't think it's a common think as I even had one TSA agent look at the scan results and say "Holy Crap!"

I fly fairly often and this never happened a single time before my surgery and resulting weight loss. Now it's 100%. Looks like I'm going to have to get Global Entry or Nexus or something so I can get pre-check every time. I have no issue with metal detectors.

I have metal in my left knee and right ankle.....never been much of a problem.

The last time I flew was six months after my sleeve surgery. The security folks were balking at my drivers license picture for sure. It was comical....until I realized they were seriously doubting me. Happened again the next month with Customs agents.

This reminds me that I need to get an updated passport.

It is the skin that lights it up. That is what the TSA lady told me the last time I was humiliated in the airport.

And yeah I had to get new ID pictures. I looking nothing like my old picture. It was getting really bed when I was going places.

Thanks for the feedback.

I also have metal in my knee (for 20+ years) and it was never a problem, so my hunch was the skin.

I have the ID issue as well. Drivers license and passport. At least my drivers license expires this year, passport is good for like another 5!! I get a lot of "congrats, keep it up!" from the TSA.

She told me anything bunched up that they can't get a good read on sets it off. I was almost crying so she felt compelled to explain it to me. It was also hot then and I was about 50 pounds heavier and I was using powder between skin folds. That didn't help either.

Before and after surgery I had to experience the TSAs serial groping. They told me it set off the machine if your clothes were baggy or bunched or in my case my skin rolls bunched.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
