Post-op day three

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery January 5, was released from the hospital 8 PM January 6. I’m sore, as to be expected, but honestly not that bad. My biggest complaint so far has been the gas pains, I know walking is supposed to help a lot but Philadelphia just got hit with it's first few inches of snow for the season so going outside is not the best option at this time, so I’m trying to walk back and forth at home as much as possible. Right now I can only lay down and sleep for about two hours at a time because of general discomfort, I don’t think it’s bad enough to take the pain medicine I was prescribed, plus I understand that the pain meds can slow your bowels down, and that’s the last thing I want at this time. I look forward to improving every day and I commend and congratulate those have taken this process because it is a long journey and I am aware there will be trying days to come but I did not come to this decision lightly and I am in it for the long haul.

Thank you

Good luck on your recovery. Some people find it easier to sleep in a recliner for the first few days after surgery.

I have used these every since I had my RNY. But before you use them please check wth your Surgeon. They are 100% natural and they have saved me many times. They are PAPAYA ENZYMES. You can buy them at Walmart for less than $5.00 in fact the last couple months I have paid less than $4. They work better than Gas X for the gas and they aid in digestion also. Congratulations on starting your journey.

Keep moving- just walk around inside your house as it's better than nothing and will help you have a bm and heal quicker!! I can tell when I've been lying down too much! Try to sit up when it's not bedtime, though I did lay down and take a few naps because some nights I didn't sleep very well at first. Every day you will wake up feeling better, just focus on getting your liquids down and walking around as often as you can now!! Have fun with the new you and take care of yourself always!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
