Losing only 13lbs in 5 weeks

Your weight loss is similar to mine. I'm also 48 and started with a surgery weight of. 244. Did you do a preop diet? How much did you lose there? My dietician has told me that my weight loss has been incredibly fast. I can tell you a friend had the same surgery the day after me and I'm 10lbs ahead of her so I know that is true. Don't worry. You are doing well!

that's a factor as well. I also lost a bunch pre-op. People who lose weight pre-op tend not to have big initial drops, because part of that drop the first month is Water weight. If you lost a lot of weight pre-op, then that "water weight" is long gone. I was the same.

Agree with cat woman. I'm counting total weight loss. Not just post surgery loss. You lost even more than me pre-op.

I'm in the same boat as some of you. I had bypass on 1/24 at 225 and I'm only down 16 pounds. It is frustrating because of course this is new to us and we think because we haven't eaten like we used to in a month. I'm also encouraged by reading some of the responses to hear I'm not crazy[emoji4]

@Clementine Sky I was just wondering how much did you loose in the 14months , My BMI is 31 I'm 5'10" 220lbs so it takes awhile for weight loss to show on me. (Which is long as I'm loosing it's fine)

I'd lost 75 pounds by then, and a bit more than 80 now. I went from a tight size 14 / XL to a size 2 / XS. I had long stalls along the way, but they'd eventually break and I'd regain momentum with weight loss. The benefit of losing slowly was no loose skin, and minimal Hair loss. Best wishes to you!

Wow! You look 28 in your photo!
There are a host of factors that contribute to the pace of your weight loss, from your starting BMI to what you're eating (too few calories can paradoxically cause a stall), and your activity level. I also lost around 13 pounds in six weeks. I stalled out for several weeks before I started to drop again. One of the only adverse reactions I had to surgery was having a really upset stomach when I started to reintroduce solid foods at the one-month mark. This caused me to progress through the post-op eating stages more slowly, staying on a liquid and soft foods diet that was really too low in calories and freaked my body out into thinking it was starving and holding onto weight to try to survive. When I was able to start eating solid foods and get into a reliable routine again the weight began to drop. It still went slow. My starting BMI was in the low 30s, and I knew in advance I'd lose more slowly due to it. I did eventually exceed my goals, but it took about 14 months.
You might experience silver linings to losing weight slowly, as I did. I lost a minimal amount of hair, and have absolutely no loose skin.

I was gonna ask that question. I f you lose slower is the Hair loss less. Thank you for that answer.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
