ready2bgreat 12 Posted January 9, 2017 I am curious if it is because you are self pay? My insurance is having me do it and I am really concerned, I already see a therapist and take depressions meds... wondering if that is going to keep me from being able to get the sleeve, are they going to say I am unstable because I fight depression, I think part of it is my obesity
Olypie 41 Posted January 9, 2017 I am curious if it is because you are self pay? My insurance is having me do it and I am really concerned, I already see a therapist and take depressions meds... wondering if that is going to keep me from being able to get the sleeve, are they going to say I am unstable because I fight depression, I think part of it is my obesity I've been on depression and anxiety meds for a number of years. I had also been suicidal a few years ago. Things have gotten better with therapy and med adjustments and they cleared me for surgery. Just be open and honest with them. That's all you can do. Good luck! You can do this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
NCGURL 11 Posted January 12, 2017 I only had to have one because insurance required it. My surgeon actually told me it was a waste of time in his opinion, but again insurance required it.
TurtleQueen 12 Posted January 12, 2017 Not all insurance requires an evaluation, mine did but I have heard of it before Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
JohnGraySmiley 88 Posted January 12, 2017 Mine was required with my insurance. I had to have 2 visits since a student did mine opposed to an actual psychologist or psychiatrist...whichever one. Nonetheless, I was thankful for them as I have seen some ppl who did not have the psych veal as a part of their process and in my opinion weren't as prepared for the journey following surgery. clc9 644 Posted January 13, 2017 I had mine today. It took less than an hour. I think it's just due diligence on their part to make sure you're making this decision of sound mind, have realistic expectations and know you need to change your life to make it work. Oh, and that you don't hear voices or think people are following you Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
deadheadkim814 9 Posted January 13, 2017 My surgeon requires pre-op evaluation with their psychologist. It is 150 out of pocket. Whether you have insurance or not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
FamilyGuyNJ 123 Posted January 13, 2017 My psych visit was more of a screening process to ensure I was mentally stable. It took no more than 10 minutes. He offered no counseling and didnt discuss coping mechanisms. Took his payment and wished me goid luck.
