Visit to the barber

Recommended Posts

This morning I paid a visit to my barber. He noticed that my head had lost enough weight that my hair follicles were closer together than they used to be. Haha, not really! :P

But I did go to the barber. And I slid right into that chair instead of going in like a cork into a bottle. Now, this is the guy who has been saying to me for a long time, "Haven't you lost some weight? This collar is going around your neck a lot looser and easier these days."

At least, he used to say that - right up to the point where I actually started losing weight! He hasn't said a word for months now, and I am down 124 lbs. Maybe he figures it doesn't matter. Maybe I need to find someone with better eyesight. I have high standards for the person who wields sharp instruments around my face and neck. :o But now that (what's left of) my hair is cut, I should get back on the scale. I might have lost another 1/64th of a pound. :P

Once you get to a certain point people stop commenting. The first 100 pounds people commented. The last 70 people haven't said much anymore. Except it seems like the last 30 made a huge difference and my friends have commented more. My face is really defined now and my waist is gone really.

I just got my hair cut and colored last night and my neck fit in the bowl slot, I didn't feel like a mound of flesh popping out of the front of the chair, and when she was done...for the first time in forever, I was excited about my new look and didn't give myself the "that'll do" eyes.

She, of course, commented on my loss because she didn't recognize me so that was a bonus.

Yeah, but the last time he said something was before I started losing weight! That's what makes it weird. I've got two public engagements coming up in the next three weeks, and with people who know me well. In the past I made my weight a bit of my personality, my schtick if you will. It was immortalized on a DVD we sold all over the world. When I say hundreds of people have mentioned weight and size to me, I do not exaggerate. It is usually a comparison of skill at what we do and size of belly. If you've read even a few of my posts (and I know you have read some of them) then you can probably imagine the humor that goes along with this.

It will be interesting to see if anyone says anything then, since my last appearance with these folks was also before I started losing. With this crowd, I may have to fess up, or they'll think I'm dying of cancer or something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
