So I am almost 6 months out of surgery and down almost 70 pounds from pre-op diet and almost 80 pounds overall. I could not be happier with my decision or the progress I have made so far!

I was having a conversation with two close friends at work who have been so supportive and they asked how much more I wanted to lose. I'm about 20 pounds from the initial goal I set but now think I want to lose 30 more pounds, just based on where I am carrying the weight. So I told them 30 pounds and they both were shocked and adamant that if I lost 30 more pounds it would be unhealthy. There was no negativity or judgement at all but it really got me thinking about how I view myself compared to how others now view me. I know I've lost a lot and can see it but I tend to focus on the problem areas and how much more I have to go rather than how far I've come.

Will I ever see myself they way others do or will I always see the fat girl?

As an aside I bought a pair of size 10 pants this week. Can't quite wear them in public yet but they zip up :)

Congrats on the size 10 pants!

It's strange that many people don't know what a healthy BMI weight looks like. It's also hard for the people that have watched you change and even harder for you to wrap your mind around your own physical changes.

It takes time for your mind to catch up to your body. Try posting a current photo on your bathroom mirror. As you get ready for the day it will remind you that this is now you. Be happy with how far you have come. If you want to lose more its ok. The goal is healthy whatever that looks like for you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
