Clarevoyant 347 Posted January 6, 2017 So I am almost 6 months out of surgery and down almost 70 pounds from pre-op diet and almost 80 pounds overall. I could not be happier with my decision or the progress I have made so far! I was having a conversation with two close friends at work who have been so supportive and they asked how much more I wanted to lose. I'm about 20 pounds from the initial goal I set but now think I want to lose 30 more pounds, just based on where I am carrying the weight. So I told them 30 pounds and they both were shocked and adamant that if I lost 30 more pounds it would be unhealthy. There was no negativity or judgement at all but it really got me thinking about how I view myself compared to how others now view me. I know I've lost a lot and can see it but I tend to focus on the problem areas and how much more I have to go rather than how far I've come. Will I ever see myself they way others do or will I always see the fat girl? As an aside I bought a pair of size 10 pants this week. Can't quite wear them in public yet but they zip up Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Healthy_life2 8,324 Posted January 6, 2017 @@Clarevoyant Congrats on the size 10 pants! It's strange that many people don't know what a healthy BMI weight looks like. It's also hard for the people that have watched you change and even harder for you to wrap your mind around your own physical changes. It takes time for your mind to catch up to your body. Try posting a current photo on your bathroom mirror. As you get ready for the day it will remind you that this is now you. Be happy with how far you have come. If you want to lose more its ok. The goal is healthy whatever that looks like for you.
