Hi. I had my surgery on 12/21/16. I'm feeling pretty ok. Not great, but better every day. But since surgery, I am SO emotional. I cry at the drop of a hat. Everyday. What is that all about?! It's becoming overwhelming.

We store hormones in our fat. As fat breaks down, those hormones are released back into our systems. It is incredibly common to be moody, emotional, and irrational as you are rapidly breaking down fat.

Edit: PS, if you are a female of child-bearing age, that release of hormones can also make you extremely fertile, so make sure you are using back-up birth control!

Oh jeez. Thanks for the info. I hadn't even thought about the hormones. Yikes. I feel so yucky all day long. And the winter isn't helping. One day at a time.

I had a huge crying fit alone in my hospital bed because I couldn't reach my phone and I was strapped to wires. I was fine right before and after. The mood swing struggle is real. I asked about it and was told the same thing about hormones haha

I didn't know what was happening but on the evening after my surgery my husband was trying to help me get out of bed and I yelled at him because he wasn't doing it the way the aide had during the day. Husband was not there when the aide was. He couldn't have known how.

I have this theory. I usually bring it out when people are dealing with loss, and this is a kind of loss so it makes sense.

I believe we all have an emotional cup inside us. Most of the time that cup is only half full of our regular emotions. When something big happens our cup fills all the way up. I usually use this in relation to losing someone you love, but this surgery is losing someone one we loved...our old life and life style. Even if we are excited about it, this is a HUGE, permanent, scary, exciting, monumental change. So our emotional cup is full. Anything extra that gets added in just flows right over and out. Bamn! Having a hard time with a basic chore, frustrated? Suddenly tears spring to eyes and we can't even deal with minor frustrations. Someone says something insensitive and rude? Anger springs along with hurt, we don't understand why we are so sensitive! But we are sensitive because our internal Emotional Cup is full and it has no more room so everything we feel is right there at the top.

Once you are more recovered and used to this new life your cup will slowly go back to normal and so will your emotional state. :) That's my theory anyway.

Forgive me. I'm new at this quoting thing.

I could have written exactly what you did, down to the surgery date. I was telling my husband today how I feel like I'm an emotional wreck. And I've been emotionally eating, to go along with it.

You are not alone there! I had surgery 12/9/16, and I'm honestly so emotional that it is bothersome. When I'm doing anything, even the simplest of tasks, I will just start to tear up and legitimately cry as if I've been subjected to the worse pain. It is so overwhelming. It doesn't help that everyone seems to be on edge when dealing with you because of the surgery. Like they all walk on eggshells and constantly ask if I'm struggling. That just makes me emotional too lol. It's crazy!

I'll give you a piece of advice. Watch slapstick comedies and fast paced action films. Basically chewing gum for the eyes. Whatever you do, don't watch anything dramatic, sentimental, romantic, or existential.

When I was recovering, I watched Paulie with my daughters. You know the movie? Has a parrot that can really talk... regardless, I was blurry eyed and lumpy throated the entire fricken movie. I didn't cry at my own brothers funeral but I am crying because a fictitious bird misses a little girl.

Ugh.

@@BigViffer I am sure that was challenging for you, but it's also hilarious. The post-op hormone dump is serious business!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
