I just wanna wake up skinny!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I up at 3:30 and must be to work at 8 AM! But I can't sleep. My surgery date was originally for February 1st but scheduling conflict it was changed to the 6th. I freaked out on having the Sleeve and called to ask if I can have the Bypass instead. Well they are working in making that change and hoping I can still keep my original date.

I am 240 lbs at 5'5 I have sleep apnea, PCOS and Fibromyalgia not to mention rheumatoid arthritis.... I just turned 40!!!!! This extra weight has had me out and about at the mall and worried about how I'm going to make it to my car because I am so out of breath.

I have had my big friends and family tell me I'm not that big. I'm taking the easy way out. But then one admitted to wanting to do it as well after baby #4 and a coworker who frowned and said all the negative wanted to know how it all worked with our insurance because she was thinking about having it.

I have also had supportive family members who just don't know what to say other than "you are going to be skinny!"

My boss is all of 100 lbs wet at 4'11 and she is so dead set against it because I'm not that big. She has said this so much that I have stopped wearing a Spanx to work! Now she blames it in everything I think I want to eat! She's all about herbal medicine.

Meanwhile I'm worried about if I can take Cymbalta with the Bypass or should I go back to the Sleeve? I'm worried about losing my hair... I have dread locs! The last thing I need is to look like Stevie Wonder!!!Lol

But I do know that I want this surgery! I just don't know which one to have. It feels like Election Day 2008 all over again!!!! Lol

Ok I'm getting sleepy but advice is welcomed.... thank you.

I was sleeved Dec 6th, I have had friends do lap band, sleeve, and full bypass. The ones who had the full bypass can not consume sugar, are more prone to dumping, have bigger scars. The ones that were sleeved are now able to eat whatever they want but in small amounts. Whatever u feel is right will be the best choice . Best of luck

I laid in pre op for 8 hrs because there were two emergency surgeries my surgeon had to handle so I finally went into the OR at 8 pm, was out of surgery by 10 pm, got my room and had to pee so instead of the commode i wanted to walk to the bathroom, pain or not. I walked the halls the next day, determined to get out of the hospital. I was discharged the day after surgery at 1 pm. The following few days I had horrible gas pains and incision pain but it was tolerable. I was able to go to my work christmas party 8 days after surgery, I was feeling great. Over the past few weeks I have had a lot of nausea and Constipation but i take meds for both. Overall , its just taking it day by day and learning to get fluids in and some food. At first Water felt like a brick but I changed to smart Water and it was a lot easier to drink. A few of my friends had 0 nausea so they are lucky. Good luck to you

What's the difference between water or bottled water or smart water? I'm asking because I'm preparing to have everything on hand that I need to make my recovery as smooth as possible

When I first had surgery I drank Fiji Water, it was just too dense. A lot of people have issues with Water at first for some reason. I suggest trying different liquids, Proteins, and food items post op. Dont stock up on anything because your taste buds will most likely change. Mio drops for water help break up density too.

best to ask your doctor about Cymbalta, but there are lots of bypass patients on various medications. Hair loss will happen or it won't. Im using rogaine preventatively so hopefully avoid it.

Don't listen to naysayers...they have no clue what they are talking about...especially if they think it is easy in any way and extra especially if they are skinny...

I love my bypass. a certain percentages of bypass patients do have dumping (it is designed that way so you can't pig out on sugar and stuff you shouldn't). I have experienced dumping and it was caused by drinking my shake too quickly. I just sip now and no dumping. I can have small quantities of sugar...eg a spoonful of my husband's dessert, with no consequences and I'm good with that. I haven't tested my limits because I don't feel the need to. I don't need or want to eat an ice cream sundae because I don't want to be fat anymore.

all the best on your journey.

I had RNY. I was in the hospital one night. I had no nausea, and I took no pain meds once leaving the hospital. I went back to work four days later.

I'm 92 pounds lighter. I don't dump (though I kind of wish I did). I look and feel great.

However, I also have no problems getting my Vitamins in, and I was otherwise very healthy so the extra time in surgery wasn't a big risk.

I believe that the decision between sleeve and bypass is very personal, and shouldn't be made emotionally but rather based on your health, current weight, circumstances, and doctor's recommendations.

that your friends with bypass have bigger scars is bizarre, unless you are confusing them with the banders. I've had a band and rny...the rny ones are tiny. the Band causes bigger scars because they need to place the port. regardless, a few years after surgery it is hard to even see the scars.

No i am not confusing them. The ones who had rny was done years ago, now days I heard its a lot different.

I sent you a PM. Had the sleeve a little over 2 years ago. Fell back into old habits, now i can eat anything and everything just like before. You have to have discipline with either one. Im #refat as i call it. Lost 98, gained back 70+. (I was going through a divorce anf im an emotional eater.) Trying to see if i can get a revision to bypass. UGH......

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
