Well there's no turning back now... I'm in so much pain. Mostly gas pains but thats no joke! And my ribs so tight and achy. I feel like I can't Move my upper body in my own. I had hoped I'd get some sleep in tonight but I'm waking up every 45 minutes. How long did these gas pains last for you guys?

I think u should try and walk as soon as u can. I was warned of gas pains as soon as they brought me to my room nd the nurse said the best thing was taking short walks..Guess wat??i didn't want any extra pain with wat I was already going through so I started walking the next day after surgery. I never experienced any gas pains till now...Today marks exactly 4 weeks post op...

Some of the gas is from the CO2 that is trapped in your abomination cavity. The surgeons use it to inflate your abdomen during surgery. In addition, your intestines are 'shocked' from the surgery and the result is lots of gas. So you are dealing with 2 types of gas. The GasX will only help the intestinal gas. Your body absorbs the CO2, but it takes several days. It's uncomfortable, as those of us who have been through it can attest, but the good news is, it gets better every day. Walking helps a lot too.

I've had surgery before and yes the gas pain is bad especially when it's trapped in your upper back and shoulders but no pain will keep me from getting the surgery I'm 4'11" and have struggled with food ever since I quit doing drugs. I substituted food instead of drugs, and both will kill me if I don't have a drastic change and wls is the only tool that I believe will help me maintain my weight, I'm sober now going on 7 years, I've had a breast reduction which resulted in 8 lbs of weight being removed. That's the best thing I ever did for myself it helped me to be able to exercise because my chest was 42J now I'm a 42 D, and I am moving and grooving . I can mow the lawn and I am constantly looking for something to do outside and keep active. I know that the wls is going to be another step to handle but I am ready.

I have been walking throughout... the pain is starting to ease up. Definitely better than last night. Going to be discharged soon.

Happy to be on the losers bench now at least :)

Did anyone have any trouble with taking pain meds?

You should be able to get up and move around later that same day, a few hours post-op. I was taking short walks up and down the hall all night my first night post-op.

Just as a little update.... I am now 5 days out and feeling almost normal :)

A little tenderness on the tummy to be expected but haven't taken any pain meds since Saturday and back to routine bringing kids to school and whatnot. Still feels a little burny if I have Water that's too cold or my shake but overall. Better

Thanks for the well wishes everybody!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
