Sleevers w/ naturally thin hair

Recommended Posts

Howdy!

If you had thin hair preop as it was like me you're probably extra concerned about Hair loss after surgery. I know I am.

What special measures are you taking to keep what ya got?

Right now I'm taking a hair, skin, and nails Multivitamin and focusing on getting 90-110 g of Protein and may also look into getting collagen supplements if it helps.

Just curious to see what you guys might be taking and about what's working and what's not.

Nice SN. I'm tense in Texas myself.

It's like being in a boat and knowing you might spring a leak but you don't know when! Save the ship!

My surgery is in February, but I started taking Biotin hair, skin, and nails supplements back in November. I've also bought some Biotin Shampoo and conditioner. And, like many others here, I'm already consuming a lot more Protein than normal. None of this may help at all (!!) but not doing anything would definitely not help! ;)

I have to admit, since I started taking the biotin supplements, my nails definitely seem better, and I've had a weird tingly sensation all over my head, daily. Could be all in my though! The worse thing for me though, is if the Hair loss does occur, it will be right smack in the middle of the horribly hot and humid Japanese summer, where wearing anything on my head will be too hot to handle!

I was born with very fine hair, but a lot of it. Then PCOS took its toll on it, especially in the front. I hide it well with how I part it and I take meds to stop the PCOS from taking more, but the last time I lost a lot of weight (170 lbs) it was noticeable to me. But it grew back. And now I'll lose it again with the sleeve, but it'll come back again.

For anyone worrying about this - honestly having the weight be gone is such an awesome tradeoff for the temporary Hair loss, so try not to stress too much about this. You'll look terrific and no one will notice your hair as much as you will.

I take Biotin and Viviscal, but have no idea if that helps or just makes me feel like I'm doing something positive.

It's a brand of hair Vitamins. Honestly, for the PCOS loss, what stopped my Hair loss was prescriptions for Spironolactone and low androgen birth control pills (some are high androgen and make hair loss worse).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
