Just starting the process...saw my primary today. Does everyone with Anthem Blue cross PPO have to do the 6 months supervised nutrition?

I live in LA and had surgery in August of 2015 in Mexico because my BMI was under the insurance eligibility requirement. The surgery itself was only uncomfortable for a few hours rather than painful, and I recovered nicely. I did have to progress through the post-op dietary stages more slowly because my stomach would get a bit upset, but besides that I had no negative side effects. No loose skin, minimal hair loss, and I met my goals. This surgery changed my life for the better, and i hope it will for you as well.

:)

I paid out of pocket for my surgery with Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. It was $4200 which included two nights at the Marriott and ground transportation. I had a very positive experience.

Hi! I think that is the requirement with Anthem. But the six months will go by fast! I promise. I know it may not seem like it but it will. I finished my 6 months in December, my paperwork was submitted this week.

What surgery did you have?

How much have you lost?

How did you come to choose this surgeon?

How did you come to choose this surgeon?

I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in August of 2015 and have lost 90 pounds, going from squeezing into a size 14 / XL to wearing a size 2/4 and S or XS. I surpassed my goal weight, and have had very minimal negative side effects. My endocrinologist had recommended the VSG to me because other women my age and size with PCOS have benefitted from it, and said that some had gone to Mexico because the costs were so high in Los Angeles (I was quoted $29,000 to $35K, vs $4200 for the same surgery a couple of hours drive away in Mexico). My BMI was under 35 so insurance would not pay for anything. I started researching surgeons in Tijuana and reading reviews from patients, and felt confident with Dr. Garcia. I wrote to several of his patients who'd posted about their experiences for more insight. I'm very pleased.

Wow congrats!

I'm researching at this point to get a revision. And I live in the inland empire.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
