Aggiemae 739 Posted January 5, 2017 I saw the staff psychologist at my first visit. But it was really based on who was seeming patients the day of my first nurse practitioner visit. I made appointments to see her a few more time pre op and have my (required) post op visitv in February.
Newme17 3,444 Posted January 5, 2017 So I'm assuming most centers would have someone on staff then?
sleeved42017 10 Posted January 5, 2017 Yes I did. He was an outside psychologist and he gave me two tests to test my personality. He was very thorough. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
clc9 644 Posted January 5, 2017 I had a one hour consult with the doctor a few weeks ago. My second appointment next week will be with the doctor and then the psychologist (same visit). That's when they want a small deposit to move forward. I'm not sure what happens after that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

And I was so surprised he spent so much time with me answering my questions. As to what comes next, you're right! People seem to be all over the place between what the surgeons require and what the insurance companies require that I have no idea what happens next for me specifically. Had I been reading this site well beforehand, I would have had better questions...
sonkat5355 70 Posted January 5, 2017 Did anyone go see a mental health provider to get cleared BEFORE starting their process with a bariatric center? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes, mine was simple. An online survey then an hour call from a psychologist or psychiatrist and a pleasant conversation. $50. The rest my insurance paid for. Also had to go to a nutritionist. ????sonkat5355????

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App No. And being asked to see the psychologist more than once doesn't mean you won't be eligible for surgery. The advantage of in house is that there usually isn't an extra charge. It's just like any other pre op visit.

At least I'll have some information to go by. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

(If I were a doc). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
