How much did you lose...

Recommended Posts

I think it really varies.... Males or females, their age and weight.... I see the larger you are the more you lose and the smaller you are the less you lose. Also we don't know what diet the follow and how active they are. Now don't get me wrong I love seeing numbers oh and pictures, but I know it's the effort you put into it. But I still love seeing the Pictures :D

Thank you to those who have shared and congratulations! I know I'll likely end up being a slower loser (i have hashimotos); but seeing these numbers is still highly motivating for me. I've been obese since I was 8. Almost 30 YEARS!!! So I'm fully prepared for however long it takes me to lose this 125lbs.

Nothing wrong with wanting to see what others have experienced, IMO. :)

I advise ANYONE to look at percentages, not pounds! I lost 15% of my goal weight loss on the first month, then it slowed down a bit. I hit a stall after about 4 months, but it broke after 3+ weeks of Protein intake and walking. A second stall was broken by emergency hernia surgery in July. As of now (14+ months out), I have lost 60% of my goal, and the rate is still about 10-12 pounds per month.

Seeing huge numbers can be discouraging if you think you should have lost 100 pounds in 6 months because you read about someone else and their journey. I would not have lost 130 pounds so far if my goal was to lose 150 pounds total. I've had MY numbers because of where I started, not because there is a magic schedule that calls for 50 pounds in 6 the first weeks, regardless of where you start at where you want to go. Everyone is different, but ALL of us are healthier for the decision to have the surgery and commit to the Real Changes that it demands.

Someone posted this in another forum.

loss is extremely variable and has mostly to do with genetics in the first year.

Nice, thank you for posting it

The statement the poster made about thinking they were doing something wrong because they haven't lost as much was a comparison of weight loss, correct?

Look, I've been around the block with this. I've seen people get their panties in a wad because they haven't lost as much as their aunt's cousin's sister's best friend did. There are HUNDREDS of posts I've seen over the last 3 years about "slow weight loss". It's human nature to want to compare, but I'm just saying it can be a potentially self destructive and demotivating road to go down. I know, and I don't want to see others fall into that trap. After all, comparison is the thief of joy.

That is exactly what I have been going through. I have only lot 6 pd in 1 and half months and 40 total in 4 months. My friend had her sleeve I month after me and has lost 56pds. I have been telling myself its ok but at the same time I am incredibly dissapointed, and even depressed. I am glad people post on this topic so that I can see that we are all different, and i need to relax a bit.

At 3 months about 60/65lbs, around 6 months 115/120lbs and by a year out I was about closer to 175/180lbs gone. Now mind you before I had even had the surgery I spent that summer and fall trying to lose as much weight as I could. Hell on the two week liquid diet phase pre-surgery I lost like almost 60lbs in 14 days(by far the hardest 60lbs I had ever lost). So in May of that year when I decided to have the surgery I was around 525lbs. Got myself down to aorund 490lbs when I started my liquid diet in prep for the VSG. Was at 463lbs when I had the surgery that Dec. And by Mar of the following spring (3 months out) I was in the 360lbs range. I beleive I was fully out of the 300lbs range by Jun/July but would have to go back and look and my post logs to confrim.

Also to add, every one is different, our bodies react to surgery and weight loss and gains differently. As long as you are losing and continuing to get healthier in your journey then that is all that really matters. If its a pound on month or 10lbs in a month, as long as its pound(s) that habe no chance in coming back, then Celebrate. Because you are doing the right thing, and believe it or not you are moving forward.

I had my surgery 4/19/2016 and I've lost 73lbs so far. I'm not exercising or eating like I'm supposed to. Most times I'm not eating enough which is what's stalled my weight loss but when I went in for my 6 months post op all my blood work was good. Just had the doctor get on me about getting my Protein in for the day and to exercise.

Everybody is different... My husband and i got sleeve, i was sleeved in april 2016 hw237 sw 220 cw 155, i lost the mayority of the weight by the 6m mark, staying on the same range for about 3m now. In my husband case hw275 sw 247 cw212 he was sleeve on oct 2016 but his process has been slower than mine, he had harder time trying to adjust to the new process. He is able to eat more than what i used too and i still do. I weigh technically everyday to knwo where im at but im happy with my result i feel different and everybody notice my change and tell me about it!

Hope the best and dont try to compare with others, everyone is different tell me about it..

Yes, everyone is different, of course, but I trolled these posts pre-op to see what to expect. I also focused on women with similar height/weight stats to mine, and that was helpful for me.

My stats are in the ticker, but I'm closing in on 4 months this coming Monday and hope to be close to -55 lbs lost. I did get a little discouraged when I saw people sleeved after me losing more, but I used that as the kick in the a** I needed to join a gym and clean up sloppy habits creeping in over the holidays.

I respond to negative reinforcement I guess? LOL.

Anyway, went from a 22 to a 16, complexion is flawless with no carbs/crap in diet, and have a lovely, consistent energy level throughout the day. I totally appreciate the lifestyle for many reasons, but the most important one (for me) is no longer going into a carb coma and needing so much caffeine to get through the day. I hum along on one cup of coffee in the morning and rarely a cup of tea in the late afternoon.

One thing I wish people WOULD mention is their restrictions and if they are meeting Protein and Water goals. I healed lovely and, yes, have restriction, but some people are gagging on 2 ounces of food, and I can get in 4-6 ounces no problem. I have always hit my Protein goals (100 grams) and Water goals (80 ounces.)

Best of luck, and get excited! Even slow/low loss is a loss we probably would be THRILLED with if we did it without surgery. It works!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
