I was sleeved on 12/21 - released from the hospital 12/23 and back to work (office job) 12/27. I can honestly tell you my worst day was the day I was released from the hospital. However, that was only with discomfort and maybe some gas getting stuck half-way up. It was smooth sailing since then.

I don't know how true this is but I heard that the better you follow your pre-op diet, the better your post-op goes. I was told the pain comes from the surgeons having to finagle more in there. Again, I don't know how much of that is true but I will tell you that I followed my pre-op to the Tee.

Don't be scared. Do what you're told to the best of your ability and move forward.

xoxo

I just had my surgery yesterday and I'm home today. While in the hospital they gave me a medicine pump to use my self. Apparently in a 12 hour period I only used it 16 times, they said that was good. The burping is annoying especially when u can't get one out!

I was sleeved 12/19/16 and had a wonderful experience. 5 incisions, Minimal gas. Sit up as straight as possible, pat the area where the gas is lodged and get moving. Remember pain is relative, so If you get your eyebrows waxed or endure any female beauty regiment you'll be fine. Sip slowly, don't use a straw and sit up and every time they offer nausea meds TAKE IT even if you don't feel nauseous yet. Once I discharged I didn't need the nausea stuff. At home take it painfully slow when eating. Guaranteed way to vomit is yo eat too fast which will cause you to eat too much & vomit. Good luck---it's sooooo worth it!

I was sleeved on Nov 4th and the gas pain is not comfortable but I could tolerate it. They gave me IV Tylenol for pain in the hospital and that's all I took. I was sent home with pain meds and didn't take any. I took gas x and used the strip kind. Helped so much. That and walking. It is tolerable for some and remember some people have lower pain tolerance.

I had my surgery for the sleeve on Nov 28. I had alittle bit of pain when I first woke up, but they give you med for that. I had gas from the air they fill your stomach with, but my nurse gave me baby gas drops which helped along with walking. I'm a sissy when it comes to pain, that's why I don't have kids. Lol but the pain was tolerable for me. It is all based on your mind set as well, don't worry about it. I just told myself that the pain is temporary, but the outcome is worth it for your health and rest of your life. I only stayed 1 night in the hospital, the more you move around the better. Gas x strips work wonderful as well when you get home. Don't freak out, you will be fine. Don't think about it, I know easier said then done.

So i spoke to my Doc today and he pointed out that my pain may have been more exaggerated bec i had multiple things done, sleeve, hernia repair and gall bladder removal in one shot. To top it off mother nature has jokes and sent aunt flo day 1 post op. So surgery 3rd power plus aunt flo cramps ... that explains it. Either way, by the end of day 3 pain was tolerable. Today day 4... minor aches. Walking def helps, just dont over do it. One day at a time.

I had very little pain from surgery or gas. Only took pain meds once while in the hospital and I could have gone home the same day. Once home I took very little pain medication and generally felt great other than tired. Try to ignore the fear mongers and people who are overly dramatic about everything!

Pain is horrible but what helped me tolerate the pain is that I walked alot. And that helped with gas release. And when ur in the hospital bed sleep elevated if not the pain will rise up to your shoulders. And that's the worse pain u can get.

Hi There,

I had my surgery 12/30/16. I did not spend a night in the hospital, the only pain was when I tried to get up every hour to walk it was like really sore muscles. I took my pain meds when I got back and was going to sleep just so I did not have pain, but have taken none since then and there is no more pain at all at this point unless I bump my stomach which is still a bit swollen (Dr. said it would take about a month to go down). Regarding gas pains I did have a slight pain in my upper chest/shoulder area but it was brief. I took GasX strips (dissolve on tongue) and after day two Milk of Magnesia twice a day as instructed.

I have had no issues since. I also had no other health issues. I hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
