Consult before maintaining?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I am about ten pounds away from goal and definitely foresee plastics in my future. Are there any procedures that surgeons would consider before maintaining weight for X amount of time? I don't want to waste mine or the doctors time scheduling a consult too premature. I'm only 5 months out but have already met my surgeons goal and about ten lbs away from my personal goal. I am most interested in tightening the skin on my chest and Lipo there as well. Everything else I can live with.. if anything else I would maybe consider a tt after maintaining for appropriate amount of time. I really don't think time will bounce back the chest at all part of it is genetics my brother has the same problem to a degree and has never been overweight and in great shape. Anyways just seeking opinions. Thanks!

I don't think it's too early for a consult. Especially if you go into it knowing that you might have to wait a bit for the actual surgery. There are general rules of thumb about how long to maintain before plastics, but everybody is different. Things like your age, gender, how long you were at your high weight, and how many times you gained and lost weight can all play a role. It is worthwhile to have a surgeon examine your skin, your history, and give you a realistic estimate of when you will be ready for surgery and what your results will be.

My husband is a reconstructive plastic surgeon so he doesn't do cosmetics but he has told me (more than once) that aside from breast augmentation, it's best to wait a full year after reaching my weight goal for plastic surgery because my skin will shrink some on its own and I will get better results if I wait.

Meanwhile , I do moisturize head toe toe daily, wear a shaper to keep my abdominal skin and thighs from stretching and wear a bra 24/7. Gravity is not my friend.

Most sought after surgeons in my area are booked out 4-6 months. So I am going for a consult as soon as I hit goal, i figure the worse that can happen is that I tone up some and need less skin removed.

Thanks for explaining about getting better results if you wait. I had just assumed the one year guideline was to make sure the patient was keeping the weight off.

^^^this. The difference in my skin less than one year out versus two years out was noticeable. I still haven't had plastics and would love a Tummy Tuck but you will get some improvement with time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
