OVER protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I am so sick of the taste of these shakes now (Premier Protein and Myoplex -- anything whey but specifically the bottled ones). To me they smell like rotten milk. Trying to figure out a way to get my Protein in without these shakes. Going to try my 'unflavored' protein mixed with various Soups. I miss using soy protein in fruit shakes (banana and berries) and although whey protein isolate is what is recommended I may need to modify things to meet my daily needs. I've gone too many days being grossed out by shakes and not meeting protein goals.

Does anyone have any other creative ideas on how to get that protein goal met daily?

I still haven't tried oatmeal with protein. It sounds gross because I've never liked oatmeal to begin with unless it had lots of brown sugar and cranberries in it (and I can't stand the flavor of artificial flavors).

I sound like such a spoiled brat, but I'll risk looking like a jerk if I can get great advice from experienced people here. Thanks in advance! post-305854-14835502339028_thumb.jpg

Try Syntrax Nectar. They have fruity flavors that kind of taste like crystal light. It's very refreshing

I love the GNC shakes. They also had seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice and gingerbread if you are into that.

Thanks! Do you mean their Leanshakes powder? Or the packaged ones?

You might try egg white Protein also. GNC carries a few brands, some with flavor like vanilla or chocolate, and some plain. Usually around 25g Protein per shake. Not like it's any yummier than whey, but it is a different flavor to get sick of for a while. ;)

Thanks. I will try the egg white Protein. I think I have a sample of some somewhere.

I found one way that I can bearably use my unflavored Protein (Genepro). I mix it with Koolaid (sweetened artificially). I wouldn't have that every day, but it is bearable when I need the protein.

Since chicken makes me nauseous I grabbed up as many Shady Brook Farms turkey thighs as I could and froze them. I cook 2 large thighs at a time in the slow cooker overnight and the meat is like pulled pork. Then I make turkey salad and eat it alone or with half a piece of whole wheat toast or with whole wheat saltines.

Fat free refried Beans with a little bit of lowfat cheese is delicious.

I just picked up these items which each have at least 10g protein (the sausage, egg white, and cheddar one has 16g)post-305854-14837380764018_thumb.jpg

I'm over whey Protein shakes myself. I've started using plain soy Protein Powder with soy milk and 2 tbs of PB2. On Amazon, I buy Bulk supplements Pure Soy Isolate Protein Powder. I also learned about GENEPRO unflavored Protein supplement on this site. I ordered it but haven't gotten it yet. You can add it to anything and it isn't supposed to alter flavor or texture too much.

They had both the last time I was there. You can buy one shake and try it or get the powder and make your own. They are a little bit thicker than Premier in the botttles.

Thanks. I've been using GENEPRO since the day I got home but I can taste the whey Protein and really don't like it even though it blends well (after mixing and letting it sit for 5 min). I have yet to try the Isopure. The Atkins Lift drinks gross me out so I have been apprehensive about Isopure.

Also just so I don't confuse anyone, I changed my profile name from HalleJillyah to Jill_me

I am only 11 days post but getting close to 80 grams a day buy adding genpro to my coffee and a little bit to wherever I need it... Homemade applesauce w/cinnamon, pureed veggies, yogurt etc. Oh, and the oatmeal is great I add 1/2 tbsp gen pro and a little bit of PB2 and splash of milk...It's also made with milk..More protein!! I like that it's not sweet...Just my personal taste .. Could you add splendid to it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
