Question about the constipation post surgery...

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm 2 months post op...And DESPERATELY awaiting my first fill on OCt. 11th. ..

Anyway, since I've been banded things have been much slower...Meaning, I am not going to the bathroom frequently... I've tried raising my dietary Fiber by eating some more veggies and some popcorn. I've added a little fat to my diet hoping it will help things along.:embarassed:

Not so much...

Any ideas folks???

Gracias!

Rain

Hi Rain,

Know the problem. Try taking a stool softener like Colace or generic equivalent. One in the morning and one:ranger: before bedtime. Works like a charm. FaithMD also swears by Baby Apple-Prune juice but i just can't do the prune juice thing.

I tried the baby food prunes/prune juice and it didn't help at all.

I don't have an answer for this problem, but I sure would like to hear whatever anyone else has found to help out with this. I think part of my problem is Calcium. Calcium is constipating.

I just got back from my 2wk post op apt with my Dr. I asked the "constipation" question. He suggested 1, more Water, 2, benefiber, 3, milk of magnesia, 4. Colace stool softner. I just happened to have some generic Colace from Walmart. I popped 2 of them, and had a result about a half hour later. Much to my relief! Try it. It's much easier than trying to mix one more powder into your tiny bit of food.< /p>

Does the colace ususally work that quickly....within half an hour? Also, does it just bring on a normal BM or does it cause the cramping and loose, watery stools that some other laxatives cause? Thanks.

I take two Colace at bedtime and then have results in the morning. None of the symptoms that you described have I experienced. Now that I am on soft foods and eat whole grain Cereal for Breakfast and fork tender vegetables things are moving better. I hope it works for you.
