Pre surgery classes.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

OK so we have four classes to attend over 8 weeks before we see the surgeon and I'm wondering if different people/surgeons and countries have similar set ups before surgery happens. Glasgow where I live is one of the toughest programmes in Scotland to get access too and I'm part of a last group who has a chance of surgery without required diabetes.

Anyone willing to share class information, what sessions are about? Questions needed to ask etc?

I had to take an informational class and complete an extensive health questionnaire before my first consult. Now that I've had that, I am required to attend at least one but encouraged to go to more support group meetings, I have to take a 4 hour group class on the sleeve surgery, meet with a dietician one on one, and have a psych consult. My surgeon assures me that this is why his success rate is so great so I'm willing to do it all. I want to be successful more than any of this inconveniences me!

Thanks Lehana.

We had to do the Psych and dietican review too and pass those before even getting referred to surgeon - fine with me as makes sense to have head in right gear before surgery.

Their whole office keeps telling us "it's a marathon, not a sprint".... so I'm trying not to be frustrated with the length of time everything takes........ I'm just so ready!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
