Did i screw myself out of surgery? !

Recommended Posts

I had my pre op appointment today and they drew blood, and asked for a urine sample. I quit smoking awhile ago, but, for new yrs, I had a celebratory smoke... now, I can't stop freaking out!! R they gonna send me home the day of my surgery bc there is nicotine in my system? I've been working so hard! How could I b so careless?! Please, no bashing. I know I screwed up. Thanks

Lunabugg20 don't beat yourself up, that leads to guilty feelings which may lead to binging & gaining weight is a reason to cancel surgery because it shows no change in eating habit. People probably don't realize that if we don't change our eating habits (type of food) we can & WILL gain weight even after surgery. But anyway, if it was one time I wouldn't worry but I wouldn't disclose it either

"How long does nicotine stay in your blood? Nicotine is usually detectable in a blood test for 1-3 days after the consumption of a tobacco product.* However, the length of time that nicotine stays in your system may vary based on how much or how often you smoke, and may also be affected by your age and general health. In addition, sometimes cotinine levels are used to determine nicotine’s presence in the body. Cotinine is what nicotine becomes when it is metabolized in the body. If this is the case, it can take 1-10 days." ... There..googled it.. Now.. Don't do it again! I quit last February and haven't smoked since.. And won't because when I lose all this weight I'm going to want skin surgery! .. Stay strong! *hugz*

So probably in the hospital or just been discharged, perhaps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
