I'm wishing us all a happy and blessed outcome. No One was more afraid than I was when I was banded. I cancelled out so many times till they kicked me out of the program. I did nearly the same when it was removed. Now I have a 3 month wait and will have surgery then. I'm scared of loose skin, failing, and of hearing my husband say I told you so. My health issues are not getting any better. I only need to lose around 50-60 lbs and I'm hoping to use this tool to control my diabetes and other issues. We can do this but I still have a few months to get it together.

I think this is SUPER common. As surgery approaches it starts to feel much more real than it did however many months ago when you decided to pursue it. I had decided not to go through with my surgery the night before it was scheduled, I even told my husband I couldn't do it. Then I woke up that morning at around 5 am and just thought, "you know what? f**k it". I was miserable and had been miserable for years. I could've talked myself out of it by convincing my brain that I could do this if I really tried and then ended up on another stupid diet. Maybe I'd lose some weight, but I can guarantee you I'm much better at regaining it all and then some.

So I went. I decided that I didn't need to fully commit until they were about to put me under. One step a time I'd think, okay, so they're running some blood tests.. that's not so bad, I can handle that. I just put one foot in front of the other and didn't think ahead, just focused on what I was doing right now. The only stumbling block was when they asked for my wedding ring and I cried, lolol. My husband took it and promised to wear it on his pinky until I came out so it wouldn't get lost. Then suddenly I was in the room and they're telling me to count backwards and I thought, okay, I can do that!

Yeah waking up sucks, the first couple weeks are hard, but most people do not have any serious issues. For me the anticipation of how bad it would be was one hundred times worse than actually going through it.

I am right there with you. I was recently scheduled for the end of this month. Ever since I got my date, my diet has deteriorated. I think it's because I'm so worried about it. Tomorrow morning my husband is going grocery shopping and getting the food I should be eating to help me out. (Usually I do it.). I think what I'm going to do is to go back to the intensive outpatient counseling program I was a part of last year for people with eating disorders. The extra support will be very helpful until I am really sure I can do it on my own.

I just started reading some posts again tonight and I just got real scared. Funny thing is I am 395lbs now started at 428 for pre op diet. That was 4 weeks ago. I want to be around 200 to 250 but am I making the right decision.

Hi Crafty. My surgery is Jan. 10th. I have a little fear going on myself. I turned 60 in Nov, 2016. This is my birthday present to myself. Just this liquid pre-surgical diet has me nauseous and severe Migraines the first few days. Anyways, prayers for a successful surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
