Internal hernia post up

Recommended Posts

I am 8 months post up.

2 days ago i got a left upper abdominal pain really bad. I couldn't even drink anything. Once each sip of liquid touched my stomach it hurt like craZy. Yesterday I went to the ER due to the pain not going away after a day and worsening as time went by.

Had a CT scan and was found to have and internal hernia for which had emergency operation.

Laparoscopic operation with reopening 3 old incisions and 3 new ones.

Any advice and/or could anyone who has gone through this tell your story.

I was put back on stage 3 diet

Please if you read this talk to me about the topic.

Thanks in advance

many of us have these also we are at higher risk of gall bladder issues and dental problems as well as bones since our food is malabsorbed we need to take all the Vitamins recommended and follow all directions. I have had several small issues and two surgeries in my 13 years since my rny. expect it but hope for the best this too shall pass it is still worth it every min.

I had to have an internal hernia repair the day after my RNY. Since then, I've suffered pain from other hernias and this past year, I was rushed into surgery for a strangulated hernia. The pain was unbelievable and came on so sudden. My belly blew up like a balloon, I couldn't stop vomiting and within 2 hours of onsent, I was under the knife. Very serious. 5 hours in surgery until it resolved. Dr. gave me that advantage instead of doing a colostomy. I agree with Martha; still worth it and I'd do it again without hesitation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
