Weight loss after gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 12/07/16. My heavy weight was 362 lbs. I was down to 357 lbs when starting my pre op diet. This morning my scales showed 326.9 lbs. With total weight loss of 35.1 lbs. I'm worried I'm not losing enough for being four days shy of one month post op. Anyone else feeling this way?

I was wondering the same thing. My results are very similar to yours. I was 245 when I started the pre-op diet, and 225 on surgery day, 12/13/16. 3 weeks ago today. I have only lost 6 lbs since surgery, 26 lbs in 5 weeks (counting pre-op time)

But I think we don't realize how much our body is still healing and adjusting to our new tummy. I think we are doing great! Just keep working the plan and sticking to eating the right foods!

Congrats on 35lbs!!

I had bypass the 22nd of November, opened up, not laproscopic.. At my 2wk appt I expressed my frustration at not having lost anything.. He says.. You were have a big wound in your belly and will have lots of Fluid.. Be patient.. You're healing.. A week later I'd lost like 15 #s.. But now the scale hasn't moved again.. 6weeks out.. But I'm still healing and went through being back in the hospital because I developed infection and am now wearing a wound vac.. Which should be getting removed tomorrow.. Curious to see what the docs scales show.. Ugh.. I'm so not good with being patient lol

Did I read this correctly that you've lost 35lbs in just over a month and you are worried you are not losing enough???!!! Please reset your expectations or you'll be disappointed a lot. You will stall, you will gain a few pounds along your weight loss journey. It is just how it works. Do all the right things and then don't worry about it. that is extraordinarily fast weight loss and not remotely achievable for most people. Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy the journey.

Travelher, you read right. I have had trouble losing weight for so many years and I've took some pics. However I'm one of those who drop x amount of pounds but still perceive myself as the same size as before. Then in my mind I wasn't really sure what to expect. But I thank you greatly for your comment to reassure myself.

You are welcome. I worry about people setting themselves up for disappointment having unrealistic expectations. In this arena I set my expectations low..,then am thrilled when I beat them...that way I'm happy with the progress. Pictures are great. I lost 50lbs before I noticed in the mirror, but with pictures it was clearer earlier....where I was losing (eg I swear I lost the first 40 off my face)....then it started to come from other places...you are doing great!

It seems as friends and family have noticed and the scales but I'm not really seeing it. I wore legging for the first time in my life and while my best friend reassured me they looked great I still felt self conscious. My pain is at a low point. I'm regaining my energy in small bursts but so ready to be back walking and full exercising. I love reading on here because there is always someone with the same questions and others who have answers. I'm so thankful to all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
